- Description
- Series Description
- "CARRASCOLENDAS is a unique multicultural series of 30 television programs in color on videotape distributed nationally by PBS in the Fall of 1973. Designed, developed, a produced by KLEN-TV (Southwest Texas Educational Television Council, Austin-San Antonio, Texas) under a U.S. Office of Education Title VII grant, for 5-, 6-, 7-year-old Spanish-speaking, English-speaking, and bilingual children throughout the United States, the series has as its major goal a constructive contribution toward improved attitudes--that of the community toward the Spanish-speaking child toward himself. The programs aim at cutting through barriers that have alienated and isolated Spanish-speaking children and at helping to alleviate some of the hampering and humiliating difficulties they encounter in language and other learning areas. The major thrust of the programs is toward engendering and reinforcing in each of these children feelings about himself that are positive and confident. The series strives also to offer each child real options in patterning the cultural texture of his own life. On a scrupulous base of research and continuing evaluation (involving linguists, bilingual education leaders, curriculum and subject-matter consultants, teachers, parents, principals, and the children themselves) CARRASCOLENDAS offers an introduction to concepts in curriculum areas deemed essential for children of this age level. Each program is a high-impact television romp, enlisting graphic and imaginative aspects of drama, music, humor, and art and a cast of robust and appealing characters, in segments with discrete curriculum objectives."--1973 Peabody Awards entry form.
