Hi there. We'll begin our two of Friday night jazz with another 40th anniversary recording a couple of weeks ago We played I know I know David Bowie's young Americans, which came out in 1975 This collection came out in the late summer early fall of 1975 on the A&M Horizon label Dave Brubeck on piano called Desmond Alto saxophone. It is called appropriately enough 1975 the duets and we will hear there. I think heartfelt reading of Alice in Wonderland Dave Brubeck on piano Paul Desmond and Alto saxophone from 1975 the duets
just a wee bit into the second hour of Friday night jazz on Vermont Public Radio with Ruben Jackson and we heard Alice in Wonderland for more Dave Brubeck Paul Desmond or Jackie Tereson Cecil Taylor Duke Ellington for great jazz 24 hours a day wherever you are check out vpr.js 24 you can listen at vpr.net and on your smartphone Now we'll return to the latest from vocalist Cassandra Wilson one of many collections marking the hundredth birthday of Eleanor Fagan also known as Billy Holiday born April 7th 1915 not in Baltimore but in Philadelphia she grew up in Baltimore the collection is called Common Fourth by Day and we're going to hear Cassandra's reading of the standard you go to my head you go to my hand and you linger like a haunting refrain and I find you spinning round in my brain
like the bubbles in a glass of your brain you go to my head like a superstar can break and debut and I find that there won't turn you up you like the kicker and a duet or two the ground of the fact that you might give a thought to my king Cassie Sparrow me still I say to myself get a hold of yourself can't you see that ever I can be you go to my hand
with the smile it makes my temperature rise like the summer flowers won't you lie so you're intoxicated my soul with your lies now I'm certain that this heart of mine I've had the ghost of a chance in this crazy man's bed you go to my hand and I'm certain that this heart of mine I've had the ghost of a chance in this crazy man's bed
of a ghost of a chance in this crazy romance you go to my hand and I'm certain that this heart of mine I've had the ghost of a chance in this crazy man's bed you
Cassandra Wilson from coming forth by day here in the second hour of Friday night jazz on Vermont Public Radio. We heard you go to my head. Our next saxophonist is a relatively new discovery to my ears. His name is Dana Stevens and just an interesting guy. I think a really well-rounded musician compositionally. I read an interview with him in Downbeat Magazine a little while ago. In addition to mentioning some of the influences you might expect for or from someone who's a quote-unquote jazz saxophonist, he cited the phrasing of Luther Vandros as an influence and I thought, you know, we sometimes think we know what a musician is
going to say. Then he or she might throw something in the pot that we aren't expecting in a good way, I would say. What we'll hear tonight comes from a collection entitled Dana Stevens that nepothetic place and the composition we'll listen to is entitled A Walk in the Park. じゃsわööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööööö H den habtلكalistischeare

. . . . to the other guy, your other guy, to the stranger, your stranger. It gets so dark, you can't even see the light.
And there's a dance that you can do between the day of the night. Who knows to meet you, and on the day true, and on the day of the day, you say, too, safe for me, say you won't live your life if you're just looking for the key. You spend your life looking for the way you never do tomorrow, which you won't do today. Enough is never enough, one time a slip slides away. You should poop off wire, you should poop off sincere. It's all so dark, but it's all so clear. To the other guy, your the other guy, to the stranger, your stranger. To the other guy, your the other guy. Mr. Ben Cydron from Blue Camus here in the second hour of Friday Night Jazz on the VPR.
And we just heard the title track. I just had to get back to this new release by Trumpeter, Flughal Hornest, clinical psychiatrist, Eddie Henderson. It is entitled Collective Portrait. Again, the personnel, Gary Bartz, antenna saxophone, George Cables on piano, Doug Weiss on bass, Carl Allen on drums. And this is an Eddie Henderson original entitled Sunburst. Music
