welcome to this special edition of the fine print wpln spoken about all things partridge i'm rebecca bain de gaulle visit began with three of my favorite southern writers clyde edgerton police methods and willie morris i've heard all my life that southerners make the best storytellers mostly heard from other southerners i did have to consider the source may be that's why i enjoyed clyde edgerton his recent encounter with a fellow writer from a policeman i was in the northeast that you were four years ago the irony since i'm a new window in west virginia bear did have a woman singing rockin chair we have the momentum that's the troubling financial regulation like that as anyone who's ever read one of kleiner perkins
novels knows his brilliance at taking commonplace events and turning them into something extraordinary the author of seven novels among them rainy walking across egypt and in memory of jr klein has done it again with his new book where trouble sweeps in it not only travels back to leicester north carolina a small town setting up several of his novels but he also travels back in time to the early fifties when lister had only one traffic light set on going most of the time a few stores and a population that is each other's secrets only too well or had it that where trouble sleeps was based in part on clyde edgerton his own childhood you know what that rumor was right it came from a cave in several places can always happen about the same time i have remembered
that my mother took me to see the electric chair or six years ago and it wasn't our son's true and it's funny how stop talking about this outside the seth morris i asked arlette as good people that we had been selected to toil for sponsors and sometimes we can and then we will start with him so fine by the time i got them or get stuck asking a question to start asking about collected pallets if there was a rumor that the ability of power his group and people are going to find out that i'm a walk except ahead for responses outcry about fifty massive worry i'll find him as tennessee north carolina albarran office so the electric paddles a southern very seldom thing i have seen in california also was not to me on the electric chair or sometimes at school class one had been in mississippi for a lawyer to share with the iraqis or a lawyer or that paul gosar there i
met this and then our moment mould katie get malone mom of finishing them off with a baseball bat and really have israel also our first start writing fiction thirties i remember for my child and now six five or six model who the father and grocery store how strong very completely taken in family community southern baptist church but there was a desolate a section of my community was going to launch a service station remains dinner and drink beer an hour get a big top great which was a great with a swollen law and allison tolman for candy cigarettes and i would secretly for tim that i was one of those guys and that was a very dangerous and therefore exciting thing for me to do it i would never have dared to tell anyone that after ten to be one of these guys are putting the first mile and didn't fit a pretty much second hour didn't fit through the third and so find this in a lawyer amal around that paragraph but at some point i realized just writing about memories know nineteen fifties
community wooden kerry amal probably had stuck a way a short story based on final connors misfit from their demands weren't fun i decided fast given the school community in an english professor of things restored jumping and cure know they did well equipped little story that was now came from was a privilege covers it but the minute that we started on short stories which eventually but i saw her novel but also stigmatized during treatment for depression and in my first session and i returned to that intersection and though a decision for humanity and stoplights then zambrano mr paul hammel mr hanna lot of from poland whole intersection that thought was changed to legalize the whole intersection of back to it was nineteen fifty and my father came walking around the porsche the garage door and i get very emotional and cried and then after that session felt wonderful it didn't think in our story though the humor i am at the intersection as though the stores the world came from one will quickly evaporate well stories
ran as a methodist minister told me about a secretary in a church he had known about moving into her office she had been sick for a day and spend them i'm like is somewhat she moving and then she sent out the atom away from that that we are just in a couple more weeks those lessons congregations what to do about the senate some of them suffer in the way fiction clyde edgerton talking about where the ideas for his stories and his characters come from his latest book is titled their troubles sweeps coming up next policeman we share some very funny stories of around but first a reminder from these nice people that it's your contributions to national public radio that make problems like the fine print possible here's how you can help
