. . . . . . Hi there, Pleasant Good evening to you. Welcome to Friday Night Jazz on Vermont Public Radio. I'm your host, Rubin Jackson. Friday Night Jazz on VPR is made possible by Ellis Music of Bethel Vermont, specializing in sales service and rental of musical instruments to schools and individuals throughout New England.
Thank you so much for that. We began tonight's program, which I should add goes to 11 p.m. Always the case. We play jazz in American popular song, material, back to what I was saying. Starting tonight's program, tenor saxophonist Stan Getz from Focus, the music on Focus, arranged and composed by Eddie Sauter, conducted by Hershey K., we heard the first movement of this really compelling work by Stan Getz entitled, I'm Late, I'm Late. Next, and before I go any further, we'll look at a number of, let's call them, either extended works excerpts from extended works featuring jazz-based players. In some cases, re-workings of material from the European classical tradition, so we're kind of extending the forms a bit tonight. It's not all of the material will fall into that category, but a good bit of it will, it's just an FYI. With that in mind, we'll continue with a collection by another tenor saxophonist, Joel Lovano, this from Viva Caruso.
What we've played previous times with this particular collections, Taren Tellus and Sarah. This, of course, all these pieces associated with the great Italian tenor Enrico Caruso. Tonight, what we'll listen to is entitled Only to You. . . . . . .
