To be redundant today From Browderboro downstate As the long-time Vermonters say I'm a neo-Fletlander Thank you all for coming To Colchester Studios and playing This is our two of Friday Night Jazz on VPR Let me say before I ask them a question Duke Ellington once said that there were two types of music Good music and the other kind And of course When I think of the former Good music, of course, you think of bands like the SNES I have to also say that You owe me dinner Because I heard you on TV a couple of months ago And I was so entranced You know, I went from the TV And I started smelling something You were so good, I burned dinner You know, I just forgot about dinner It was a compliment But again, welcome Just, you know, a quick question Because we want to get into the music And we'll talk more After you graced us with some more songs But just how long have you all been together
And just talk a bit about the origin of the band's name Anyone? Has it been like three years? I think it's three and a half, three years Almost four To the very beginning It's a story actually But me and Mavis were just in middle school And we were like walking around And brainstorming names and stuff And I think I was trying to use like a creative word So I said the word SNES Which I guess isn't really word And then door was like Mavis Mavis, that's it, that's it And I kept being like, what are you talking about And she was like, that's the name of the band And I was like, okay And so at that point it was just SNES It was interesting It was a little formality Could you quickly introduce the band members Before we go to the second song I should have asked you that before I'm Dharma Ramirez I play guitar and sing lead vocals I'm nine at Cates I play bass And backup vocals

states many musical treasures the snaz from down state as they say from from Brattleboro. I'm a bit of a a word geek and I you know one of things that impressed me when I first heard you all it's like your lyrics and I just if you could just kind of quickly talk about the you know how do you put songs together do you write the lyrics first you come up with the music or how does it work for you well I usually do I write the guitar music first or at least I get like idea of riff going and then I work out lyrics just I just kind of like free right lyrics and then sort them out and put them together and kind of goes together like that and then once I have the guitar and the lyrics together bring it to the band and then we arrange it all now how do you all as band members contribute do you say do you like the rhythm track and think you know as a basis do you say well I'll add this is it do you bring it individually and then put it together or do you just kind of jam or we kind of just play the main like the verse chord progression for a while and then I just kind of like
noodle around figure out what I like to play and and I don't know that's how I developed my parts usually Zach's kind of on it immediately just like oh that's the rhythm got this it's kind of a jam thing yeah it's like it's like don't we'll just show us the song it's like okay well let's play it now we come together later yeah we like figure out different like bridge parts together sometimes we're like it wouldn't be cool if this verse was twice as long as that one or something if you're just tuning in we are here with Domba Ramirez nina Kate's Zach James and Mavis Eaton the snaz just a great band I'm having I guess there's no such thing as too much fun but again thank you all for coming audience make a little more noise for this wonder what's what's next for lucky us summer underground okay yeah

Thank you very much. I started playing guitar with the band so probably like three and a half years.
I started playing bass in fourth grade. I kind of took a break for a while and started playing guitar but I'm back to bass because I got recruited to this nest. I guess my playing piano was pretty inconsistent. I technically started taking piano lessons and I was in like the second grade but I didn't for years between then and now. Zach's been playing the drums for his whole life, always. What's the next song? It's a company you're right by.
