Thank you, 30. It's 90.3, KEXP. It's about 5 minutes past 4 o'clock. Red House painters right there with San Geronimo, and before that you heard cat power and a request for magnet. I'm Stevie Zumin for Kevin Cole this afternoon, and right now want to introduce in-studio guest Reggie Watts. Reggie, thanks for coming in. Thank you for having me. Nice to see you again. It's been a while. Been a while. You've been busy. I've been a bit busy. Yes. Reggie Watts is performing tonight at the triple door.
Starts about 7.30, and those of you probably, most of you around town know Reggie as the vocalist with Mach 2, and all kinds of other projects going on, and probably putting a number of those kinds of things together tonight. Yeah. I'm going to try the Reggie Watts tangent and other multi-performances. Anyway, you're very busy if you want to give an idea a little bit of what people might hear tonight. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've just been doing a lot of kind of performance, comedy, things around the country and abroad. And so it's night I've put together kind of a different kind of a show. So it's like it comes in two acts. The first act is I'm doing a bunch of minuettes, done in like 17th century kind of compositional style with modern dancers and a hostess who will be announcing and describing each song as they're playing.
Everything is improvised, so it should be really interesting the outcome of it. And then the second set is just my straight stand up, but my stand up is kind of like a mixture of beatboxing and banter. That is what a lot of folks have been asking about recently who haven't seen it. What's the comedy thing he's doing? Well, you're going to have to come out tonight and see it. All right. That's tonight at the triple door and if you're ready for a little performance right now, you got the band with you. I do have my band with you. Yeah. I'll be doing some songs that I'm going to do doing songs this evening this afternoon that I won't be doing tonight as well. All right. So thanks a lot for listening and I know that a lot of you out there have had a lot of bad things happen to you and some good things as well and that builds up a body of experience and I congratulate you for that. This next song that I wrote is a combination of two things, making it possible to actually say that it is a combination. So enjoy this next song.
It goes out to you and Ricky and I hope you guys have a lot of fun. Here we go. I was song number one, KXP, giving you the best in world music since 1865.
Next up, we've got a song from, number one head. So state here we check out long go before anyone knew that products existed. Products gave you the best products that you could imagine. All the way from France, Germany, Switzerland and Swaziland. We give you everything you've ever desired, including some things you never thought that you ever could ask for unless you were there in the room at the time you desired it. So straight to you from Bolivia, some new world music, KXP style, check it out. 90.3, KXP, you're listening to live music performance from Reggie Watts and he is going
to be doing this in a whole lot more tonight at the triple door. It starts at 7.30 and you know what's great is I think you're always traveling and doing performances and things with a lot of different people and I think just the experimentation and the improvisation, just kind of builds upon itself, you're always looking to do more. Yeah, I mean the way I look at it, I think sometimes you can either view yourself as one thing that you do or you can view yourself as kind of like the core of the thing that uses the tools that express who you are, that doesn't sound too confusing. Basically, I just don't want to limit myself or as just being a vocalist or just being a synthesizer player or just being a composer or whatever. I want to try other art forms and get in and experience different ways of expressing
my ideas. One of the groups that I know that you've been doing some things with is soul live. I've always liked those guys, played a lot of their stuff, how did that get going? We did a show together, let me, let's see, what was that, it was like three years ago with mock tube in the northwest and we got along together, we did a couple more dates down the west coast and we got along with each other, they started asking me to jam with them on stage and before I knew it they were asking me to come out to these coast and do like little tours as a guest and then we wrote some songs together and did a record and I did a couple songs with them and so we just kind of been touring and just kind of helping each other out, you know, it's been really awesome, it's a bootsy, bootsy holly, make me want a holly, yeah, yeah, bootsy and bazoni and, oh, I was like going to ask, oh yes, any on the horizon here, any recordings that people might look forward in
the near future? I'm going to be doing a, this is going to sound weird, if anybody remembers Windham Hill or George Winston, yeah, so say a west coast, I'm going to be doing a piano record. It's just going to be all instrumental improvised piano in the style of George Winston so that will be something I'm doing. I'm also doing a comedy DVD that's going to be filmed in New York throughout like a week of shows and in the East Village and then I think that said I'm going to be also doing a project with Jeremy Kepping from Voyager 1, we're going to do like a whole record together in the style. If anyone has my album out there, my solo record, there's a song called Your Name that Jeremy and I did together and we're going to do a record all in that style, so a few things. Reggie Watts is at the triple door tonight and I want to ask on your website, there's no details or anything in there but there's a mention that you were to have been hanging out with the Stones.
Yes, it's true, yeah, it was really weird, like soul life gave me the itinerary and it was like two dates with the Stones, I was like no, we must be like one of three bands opening for them. And yeah, we opened for the Stones, it was just us and the Stones and where did that happen? That happened once in St. Louis and the other gig was in Atlanta and it was awesome. I mean the first night Charlie Watts came backstage and was like oh really not chip performing, sounds great, really great, I love your music. And the second time we did a photo off with them and I remember asking Keith Richards about one of the players and the master musicians of Jajukha because he had like put out their record and he was like I had my arm around him, my left arm around him and I looked at him and I was like hey, do you know, but she retired from, you know, and he's just like, all right, it was like wow, this guy is crazy. But they're really nice guys, they're just rock stars, you know, they're just, it was amazing to see how they were, you know, positioned throughout the evening like they had handlers and, you know, and there were certain zones of privacy and it was cool.
I was very happy to do that gig, it was a great experience. Yeah, it sounds like they're with your moment with Keith, you've got the full-on Keith Richards experience right there. I did, I knew what Johnny Depp was going for at that moment. All right, Reggie Watts is going to be performing at the triple door of the evening starting in 730 and I think you got a little bit more for us. Yes, I do. These are some new tunes I've been collecting rare cuts from around the world, mainly, a lot of you guys are familiar with 45s, I've been collecting 27s and my 27 collection is pretty huge, I've got six records right now, and this is kind of an approximation of one of the songs that I'll be doing this evening off of that record that I'll be doing for you this evening and also right now at the same time. So as I'm doing this, I will be performing this this evening at the same time. So if you're there this evening, know that this is going on at the same time, okay, check it out.
All right. I am savory. I'm not we're from the world
your color, but she was kind of staring at me in that weird way that says, you know, don't define me. So, you know, I agreed with her. I was like, yeah, green's awesome. You know, and anyway, she got really mad at me. Because at the end of the night, she was like, you know, why didn't you tell me not to wear the green? I was like, wow, because you have that look in your face to tell me that you didn't want me to say that you didn't look in green, you know, good and green. And I was like, okay, I just said that. And she was like, you know, if you've got one thing to do, you know, define me always. And I was like, well, every time I define you, you always pull out a knife and then you start to cut me in and I start to bleed and things get really weird. And I'm like, yeah. And she's like, warm. And I'm like, could be. And
they're like, uh-huh. And then all of them are like, yeah. And I'm like, no way. And then they're like, looking at me like, what are you going to do? And I'm like, well, I don't know what I'm going to do. And I'm like, what do you want to do? And they, you know, then they get mad. But they, and don't change. So that's why you shouldn't use that product when you're that high. you're like, you're so bad. So you know, tell me. She got a bad thing, but you don't want to
tell me what to say. I knew that you was happy in sight. I know that things were all about to get a lot. Is there a Puluna, sea and any episode there? Oh, yeah, kind of go on. being like yeah. you won't need to be there for someone got mad at you. So they get napches, you'll know there was Evertenants, something odd aboutcha, but you didn't think them through, but the But I never think it was And you are in the thick of it all Ooh, ooh, ooh I never thought you were still back
And done it with you, oh Yeah, sometimes if you speak Saturday I heard the things that you were screened To your girlfriend And I was mad because you said I was gonna be your friend And yes, you did, he'd the worst And you'd find that I can't believe I thought I'd for you to follow And then you should leave But the skies don't think they're long to be straight Ooh, ooh, ooh I was such an act you weren't playing Ooh, ooh, pass the temperature And it gets so very high But I won't read the things You never want to disguise You still have to be you And if you're a big 50 Well, you'll never be your friend Or you're always so wrong You love you so think that And I give you all my faith And all I stirailing and I'm taking you for my Me
Not myself, name Got it in your mind But audible Oh, I'm such a big family Gave me for my Me And cut me into my Lean You're listening to a live performance of Reggie Watts here at 90.3 K-E-X-P. I'm pretty very familiar. Oh, this is really good. It's nice to be here. It's great. It's great. It's really nice to be here. Look at that. It's nice to be here. It's nice to be here. I'm a dog. A dog. It's a good day. It's a good day. We got a picture. We got a picture in the background. A picture in the background. A picture from the background. A picture. A picture. She knows my language. A picture of me. Oh, she does. Oh, she plays. She plays. Oh, she plays. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, especially marriage.
You can handle things. Yes, he can. Yes, he can. Yes, he can. Are you doing, man? I don't know. I don't know. Ask her. I already know. I already know why. I know. And I'll say it's the same way. I know. That's the same way. You guys are just trying to show me that I wanted to dance with... You know, you're not. I just don't want to dance. You're trying to get me anxious. Just want to dance on the bar. I'll just show your tell about what we're about to do. I don't know if you fuck up here. ROLLER I have a new way to get all I can say, yes, I have a good job coming up. Yeah, I got it for the night. Really? Yeah. Yeah, I'm doing my job. Really. It's like comedy stuff. Oh, when did you do this? Yeah. I've been trying to feel like this is so much fun. Yeah.
So I do music in my comedy, I don't know. But it's great because right now in New York, in New York, there's a stuff in comedy. I'll tell you, come and come and see me. And it's really all the comics, which is not amazing. It's just so inventive. It's a great experience. I'm in New York. Are you? Me, I think. So mean. Yeah. So mean. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Yeah. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. You know, New York. I'm, I'm, I'm helping my friends. Look at that. And I'm, you know, I've been here in New York. Yeah. That's pretty cool. I've been here. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You see.
Yeah. No. I'm not sure if you're a woman or you're a boyfriend, you're a woman. I mean, I mean, I really do. I mean, you have to like, you have to like, you know, you know, but you know, I mean, you might get the work like, you know, you're a woman and you're a part of your business. And that's why something so much harder, but something that's better than my own life. You know, some of them are aware of it. Some of them are aware of it. And they're a woman or a woman about it. And it's like it's unfortunate about it. You don't have to worry about it. Unless they're still amazing and what happens to you know, like, if you're just like a big song by this, you know, I mean, that's not enough. If it's crazy, but if you're dying, it would obviously help you to do things like that. Like if you're a human, if you're a human, you're like, you're a human, something kind of strange. Like, if it's acceptable for some reason, I don't know what's happening around this. Okay. You know, people aren't like farmed. Everybody's like,
Yeah, but there are so many things from the United States, and I always provide. Thank you. You know, that is the M.A. Oh, there you are. What's the M.A.A.D. plan? What's that? Is this one? My twin? What's my twin? My twin?
I can't believe it. It only reminded me of it. Like, like, I've heard of it. Was it great? And just like the build and, like, just a little bit of a demeanor. I was like, kind of, right? It would be an alien feeling. I mean, that would be four of us. It's just a genius. Um, oh, no, really? Yeah, we've done before. I can't believe it. I can't believe it. I can't believe it. I can't believe it. What's your name? Julian. Like a teenager. Yeah. I don't know. I think we're twins, I'm not sure why. You were saying that. No, no, he was saying that we have the exact same. Yeah, that's what he calls to the M.A. He's definitely accurate. Actually, you know, the M.A.A. You know, the M.A.A. You
