9.3, 91.7k exp, listener powered radio, I'm Cheryl Waters and I'm joined here in studio with Devin Davis and his stellar band looking forward to hearing a live set. Thank you so much for coming in. Thank you very much for having us. Let's just kick it right off into a couple of songs and then we'll have a chat. 10.9.
I'll say to love I'm so confused I'm at the ghost of everyone's on the sidewalk Yes, you're dead. Who are you who's directly in my heart? Surely it's no big surprise that you're thinking that you must be away. Oh, everyness that's out, what do you get that much? Let it end up inside your mind, when it so goes all the time. It's a little, just a little bit of bad maintenance makes you better.
Just a little, just a little bit of bad maintenance makes you better. Oh, what do you think? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, that night I was face-to-face. I'm telling out to space as a human, as I go. Wiggling on the wire. Oh, a little, a challenge through crazy men. You're running in and out of the land. And ain't it gonna make it to hurt a fire? Oh, just a little, just a little bit of bad maintenance makes you better. Just a little, just a little bit of bad maintenance makes you better. Oh, oh, Oh, oh, oh, oh. Yeah.
Just a little, just a little bit of bad mixed mixed mix, just a little, a little bit of bad mixed, whoa! Now, let's eat our Oh, in the sound of the sets that is sleeping
I need to drown to find out who is speaking But there was no one there After a while I walked out of my old friend Trying to get all capital letters With a big white sling on the wing And two geysers wear my eyes But we may not live up in the sky With the air, it's scared with the old legs And two can hop up on my shell When we crawl across the runway And we were two rocks when you strike them Together I told it that I would like nothing better Yeah, nothing in the world Did you just smile on me With blackberry towers And we keep talking on it all the hour
All out how the wind goes to Do do do do do do We may not live up in the sky With the air, it's scared with the wings No fire But two can hop up on my shell When we crawl across the runway Cause we might get back today But at least we left there long Enough to say When you're from home to me And then she gave it at kiss to me I couldn't stand this dream And all the time I'd take away the wind I'd touch the tail of the bum And all the colors I would just know I'd like to take in my shell
To sleep at night Well, you have to go back to me I'd have to go and it takes you away And all the time in the sky With the air, it's scared with the wings Go by Two can hop up on my shell When we crawl across the runway We may not live up in the sky With the air, it's scared with the wings Go by But you can hop up on my shell When we crawl across the highway When they knock the ball In the sky, when the air It's scared with the wings Go by
Two can hop up on my shell When we crawl across the highway Seven Davis live on KEXB That was incredible Thank you very much So awesome to see you play in those songs live Thank you so much for coming by this morning Thank you very much for having us We're very honored to be here Would you like to introduce your orchestra? Yes, on the base guitar I have Mr. Nick Myers And on the drums I have Mr. Jim Duffy And on the keyboards and saxophone Mr. Nick Masarella
It sounds like there's a lot more than four of you here I was wondering how you'd reproduce the live sound on the album And you do an incredible job You definitely want to stay out of your way On stage There's a lot going on Nick jumping up and down And you jumping over here on the theremin The theremin is kind of a I guess it's a lot of work for a few seconds But it's fun to throw that in there Oh so worth it And is it true? I know that you've been talking about the album which I should mention It's called Lonely People of the World Unite For a while now it's getting tons of attention I mean people are incredibly, incredibly blown over by it And our listeners are right up there with them But people are pretty much saying that it's sort of a solo Thing that you brought in a few people to work with it on you But that there's a veritable kitchen sink of instruments And a lot going on and that you did a lot of it yourself Yeah, I worked on it for a couple of years And brought in some guys that I had met
Through working at a recording studio Some jazz players And then after I finished the rough mixes I gave my to some friends And I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Duffy here And it all just kind of came together from there But I would like to think of it For now on it's being a band though So it's part of the reason why I did it Was to meet people to play with And I am so happy to have found these guys right here Well you've united Lonely People Or maybe that's a stretch thing you all were lonely before you met Devon They have lots of them But it seems like much as said about it being Sort of a thematic album and if indeed you were lonely It's nice to see her not anymore Well yes Yeah I think I guess I've got three new friends And on the road I know you'll be making many more
Actually speaking of fans, we broadcast live around the world IKEXP.org and so we have listeners all over the world And as soon as we started playing the album We were getting responses from all over the country And I understand I'm not sure if you're from But at least spend some time living in North Florida And lots of people emailing from there And I've got emails from people there too One woman's actually been sending me pictures of you When you were really young So that's wonderful It's interesting to see you in person Because I see pictures of you when you were 16 and 17 I'd like to have the name of that person And Brandy Brandy Oh okay sure sure Thanks Brandy But it's nice to see you in person you're a lot taller Than I imagined But you've been living in Chicago for a while But are you originally from North Florida? I was born in Clinton, Iowa It's on the Mississippi River I actually gym, found out later, grew up In town on the other side of the Mississippi
No one knew I'd like a 10 miles away or something Which is if you've been there It's really a roll of the dice there to have that It's people to be raised around there Right, but you didn't meet back then No, no, no, well But we may have cross paths on the river, front and in Clinton At some point, I didn't stroll or something But yeah, I grew up in Clinton, Iowa And then moved to Jacksonville, Florida, the beaches there And then moved to Chicago six years ago Yeah, what precipitated the move to Chicago? To meet, I was in school, I had six classes Left and I dropped out to move to Chicago and started rock bands Well, luckily it paid off, that's a big risk to do I mean, you can always go back to school, right? That's true, but fame and fortune, it's fleeting Yes, yes, I know, I'm ready to complete my history degree It immediately, so Well, this is your first album, is that true? Only people in the world unite I had a band in Florida that I put out a CD with
But this is the first kind of like pop, album, whatever, so And you were playing tomorrow night, a chopsy we hear in Seattle With our own Tim Sealy, to be a great show Yes, very, very excited about that And we'd love to hear a couple more songs Okay, let's see here Okay, here we go So the love in a basement, and not get carried away When you're a dead man on the tape, that's it, we must say Oh, we'd spend growing that skin to set the sun
On your poor man, in a better phase That we managed to stay full On your poor man, in seven days At the top of the world, on our own On our own, on our own, on our own While we're standing off the river, we're sure We've backed up with my vaccine Or what's that expected way, never Oh, we'd love to be a dead man, she made surprise The science is rare, I never heard one one one But I ain't gonna forget, I know you're a dead man So we'd love with the generous shine, start Oh, you're a poor man, in a better place, I know I know Oh, you're a poor man, in a better place Oh, you're a poor man, in a better place
You're a poor man, in a better place I know you're a poor man, in a better place Oh, we'd love to be a poor man, in a better place Ay! There's a dirty sock in my hand, I don't remember crotting in them
There's a sweat to watch on the floor, that I'm not quite prepared to endorse I was having this dream, we were telling the teeth, were lean with slimy, slippery sides I wanted to tell them I'm upside down in the back of your eyes It's like you're up into the breeze, you're the forest of family trees And the future of sight of sunrise, we can ride off into the sunrise And wake up in the afternoon, the gosh of earth, my soul, the moon It's all up to the turn, whoa, we've got both hands, we've got even nose We made more hours to go, over the world feels colder today
I don't care what the scientists say, there's a campfire built in my heart, and even the sun would stop, while the climb up pale into the oil Spelt to the fast, that's best disguise, though I won't take until I'm upside down in the back of your eyes I don't know why I love it, you clear my souls, we've got up to the cold to the show We gave a new fact to the bright stars, because of the sun and dark grasses And the track that I'm looking to find, that's what you need What you have said to wow, it's worth a thousand And to the warm, warm, we're in the dead land, we're in the dead land
And we can't stop, we're in the dead land No, I won't take until I'm upside down in the back of your eyes I won't take until I'm upside down in the back of your eyes I won't take until I'm upside down in the back of your eyes I won't take till I'm upside down in the back of your eyes I love the people of the world. Aahhh! Aahhh!
Deventeva's live on KETXB. That's an anthem, if ever. The CD, Lonely People of the World United, Devent, and his band playing plan tomorrow night at Chopp Sui here in Seattle. You You You You You I Know If you say your next work is in collaboration with Stephen King yes, um, no what I've done is a little book on the life of ideas of Thomas Jeff's which will be And he's in a way everything one rides is something to do with Jeff's and if you're writing about America, which is the great I was I took a while off but just read nothing except things by or about him and I don't believe anyone say they'd really now read it all but It is it is the it is the origins of the American Revolution Which happens to be the only revolution that still has the dynamic force in the world not all of it positive Christopher is always a great talking to you. We will have you back again soon and thanks for another book Oh, which are good though?

We slipped out of one thing and slipped into another thing. We slipped back into tab Smith from crazy walk on Delmar Kapis called pick up on tab part one we slipped out of inadvertently Peter Brotsman with Joe McPhee Kent Kessler Michael Zirang and blessed assurance a traditional tune This new CD release on Hat Hut records recorded 2002 in Chicago Peter Brotsman, Joe McPhee Brotsman is coming to Seattle and rare and wonderful treat and that is let me scrunch up my face and think October 19th Going to be appearing in the small room at consolidated works. Brotsman is one of the most ferocious of the European free-blowing improvisers living in Berlin right now The notorious tour of the Peter Brotsman 10 Tet which turned into a 12-piece band by the time it was done missed Seattle unfortunately a few years ago
But Brotsman coming back in a trio setting saxophone with bass and drums a couple of guys from Germany and Switzerland going to be great In any case all that to set this back up again we're going to go back and revisit this CD and we're going to keep it playing this time Peter Brotsman with Joe McPhee The third track on this called master of a small house dedicated to Fred Hopkins Peter Brotsman composition The new CD is called Tales Out of Time and you're on jazz theater KEXP 90.3 in Seattle 91.7 down there and KEXP.org Thank you.
