Let's hear from you We need you We're gonna zoom, zoom, zoom and zoom Come on and zoom and zoom and zoom and zoom Come on, give it a try We're gonna reach for the sky You can help us to fly high Come on and zoom Come on and zoom, zoom Here's a phenomenon from Heather Keating, Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada.
It's called heavy hand. Take your right hand, spread it apart, and put it on the top of your head. Raise your forearm to the horizontal position. Then have somebody try to lift your hand off your head. And then while they're doing that, keep lifting your elbow up. And if you do it right, it should work. Here's a great relay race. You see, the first person on each team puts a rubber band around their two big toes like this. Then they run the race and then pass the rubber band to the next person on the team without using their hands. If the rubber band falls off, just pick it up, put it back on, and keep going. You ready? Yeah! Okay. Go! Go! Go!
Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go, Shada! Go, Shada! Go, Shada! Go, Shada! Go, Shada! Come on, Chee! Go, Susan! Come on, Chee! Go, Susan! Come on, Susan! Come on, Susan! Come on, second Joe! Now, just put it on. I saw you, I saw you, I saw you, I saw you, I saw you, come on, come on, come on, go Nicholas, Yes! Yes! Yes!
Yes! Oh, go, Cheek! Go! You got it! Yes! Food, glorious food. Goodies coming all. Shapes, sizes, tastes, and smells. We want the recipe for your favorite goodie. Send it to Zoom. That's Zoom, Z-W-O-M, Box 350. We received a letter from Sherry Young of Dayton, Ohio, and this is what it says. Dear Zoom, I have a recipe for a Zoom goodie. It's called Energy Cookie. In Dayton, Ohio, we have an energy crate. And with this recipe, you do not need to bake. All you need is the food. I've tried this recipe, and boy, is it fantastic. I hope you like it, too. The first thing you do is crumble up two packages of graham crackers in a bowl. There. Beautiful.
Then you add two scoops of peanut butter. Don't put too much in. There you go. And I, uh... Oh. Make it a little more this time, right? That's good. Blend. There, that should be done. Then you add one half cup of sugar. Then you add orange juice. You can use either orange juice or chocolate syrup. We're using orange juice. Six ounce scale. Six ounce scale. It's the flood. Uh, judgment day is gone. Um, them? You mix it. Mix it. That feels weird. Like mud and frozen dirt combined.
Squishy and also grumpy. Then you roll it up into small balls. And you put some powdered sugar on a plate. And you roll it in your powdered sugar. There you go. And that is an energy cookie. If you'd like a Zoom card with the instructions on how to make energy cookies, write Zoom. Box 350, Boston, Mass., 02134. And don't forget Yosezi. Not the greatest goodie ever, but it's pretty good. Mysterious Island by Dale John Pequeno from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
What a great day for a balloon ride! Oh, right there! It's scary! Look at the lightning! Oh, look at the lights! Look at the city! Oh, it's huge! Oh, look how the ocean's moving! Oh, look at this land on that island! Let's get off! Let's get off! Let's get off! Let's get off! Look at the mountains! Get off now! Let's look around! Oh, wow! Let's look around and see what we can find! Oh, look at that. It's pretty. Look at the palm trees. Look at the water. Oh, yeah. Look at that. It's going... Oh, wow. Look at that big palm tree. Oh, let's see. What's in here? Oh, that was close. It's scary. It's going to see him. Oh, look at the coconuts. Look at the caves. Oh, let's go in.
I'll take that side. I'll go this way. You go that way. Okay. Hurry up. Come here. Oh, I can hear. Oh, I hear somebody coming. I hear somebody coming. Oh, bro. Oh, let's get out of here. Oh, let's get out of here. Oh, it's so scary. Oh. Let's get back to each other. What? What? Get off! Oh, Tano, Tano! Oh, I sure wouldn't want to get stuck on that island. The End
Jennifer Cicerelli and Lisa Gilbert from Duxbury, Mass, sent us this note. We have a special way of getting rid of loneliness. All you have to do is pretend you're on a desert island. All alone. There's no TV. Name three things that you would want to bring and three things you wouldn't want to bring. I would bring a pet, a dog or a pet or something like that to keep me company. I'd bring a sandwich, I mean, I'd bring a radio. And a supper-made sandwich. I lost as a supper-made sandwich. I know, I'll always want to. I wouldn't bring spinach. Oh, I love spinach. I wouldn't want any insects to be there, you know, mosquitoes and all those dads. And I wouldn't bring a dope. If you ever must go to church, I would bring a whole supply of water. A good, long-lasting boat to get back.
First aid, just in case I happen to get hurt or do something for animals. What, are you going to fall on sand? and here's what i wouldn't want to bring i don't want trouble i didn't come there to get trouble and i don't want bad weather and here's the worst thing i don't want of all i don't want a pain in the neck the pain in the neck i would i would want to bring an airplane some fuel and a takeoff place Just put it and assemble it together. Put my A to B. Surrender on an island? Okay. A radio, clothes, submarine. A flashlight. A friend. And some food. A girl. And a boat. Carol, let go.
This is a barrel we learned from the Children's Museum in Boston. What you do is take an index card and put it on your forehead. Now write the numbers one through five on the card. I can't see Carolyn. It's so funny. You say? Ow! I made that mistake too. Manmanship. Magic ink goes right through the cap.
I know I did that wrong somehow. I did it, John. I was here for the two. Two? Let me see. The two is that big. The four and the five are right. I got the five right. Yeah, if you say so. Nicholas. I got the one right. I got the one, three, four, and the five right. It was a long time before Lee came to in his hospital bed. I'm 14 now and I've had a reading problem as long as I can remember.
Now that I'm in junior high, they call my reading problem a learning disability. I don't hide my reading problem, but I don't go around telling everybody I got it. It doesn't mean I'm dumb or anything. It's just something that holds me back. Just be cool, Lee. Be cool. Stuff said stuff. Sometimes when I'm reading, things get screwed up somewhere between my eyes and my brain. went out to get her okay in this paragraph you just read you changed a little word all right i want you to go back to here and see if you can change that to wasn't very good types of mistakes i make are substituting letters or taking a word out and put another one in or something that's going to change the meaning of the whole sentence
for he kissed his well what's real frustrating is you'll start reading something and you can't read it anymore because there's one stupid word and then the rest of it doesn't make any more sense she kissed his okay try that word bruised people learn different ways it isn't like putting a book in front of themselves tell them to read but they're learning something different what is it now what do you do with this you dunk it in the bottle of this wine yeah why don't you just dump it in the bottle why do you use that when you just go like that why do you use that this is a funnel remember that i want to get the hose look you know why you use this why look yeah see how you're missing some of
it now if you stick this in there that goes right in there now if you dump it in you don't lose any Hey, see that? Hey, how can I get an eye? I'd feel better, Mark, if you had one hand on the ladder. Long way down. Learning disabilities runs on my family because I have three brothers and one sister, and two of them have a reading problem, and my father does too. my father knows what it's like for me because i guess he went through the same thing himself when he was in school to be called upon to stand up and to be able to read in front of let's say 30 or 40 kids and you know inside that you just did not have this ability and you just could not
read it i mean there's just no way uh this this was enough to make you want to pack your book and pencil and walk out and quit school hey buddy the one who was playing with his mic could you hold on for a few minutes my father can do just about anything and he's had a learning problem all his life he works as a teacher and he does all right firebird we're gonna have to jump onto another channel here she was breaking up a little bit there for a minute what's your 20 yeah my 20 now is uh washington street all right there teddy bear thanks for the comeback hey uh come back again there firebird uh you tell your mother to put the coffee on i'm on my way home we'll be at the home 20 in a short shot great let's read some and see if we can compare the sounds uh numerical great i've seen what younger kids read you know like kids that come up to your knees they're reading a lot better than I do and it's kind of frustrating. Stimulate. Good.
Communicate. Good. Re-re-reputed. Watch the beginning. The one thing they work at in a reading class is to try to figure out what each student can do and can't do. Okay, say the whole thing together. Reputed. Great. I tutor a kid and a little boy in elementary school. His name is Tommy and he has a reading problem just like mine. Can I scramble that? Bus. I'll try that. The bus in. The bus in? i like helping him because i know i'm making him read better every time i go there and sooner or later he's going to be back up to where he should be and he won't have to avoid things that i had to and be embarrassed and all that stuff you sure yep that looks great
all right just look around you're reading everywhere like you're not going to get through life without being able to read so you might as well get help now that you can Confidence in yourself, knowing that you can do it, is what will help you out a lot. If you think you can't do it, there's a slim chance you're going to do it. I can't do that. There's a trick somewhere. This is a stocking racket, and I'm going to show you how you make one.
All you need is a coat hanger, some tape, some old nylon stocking or pantyhose and scissors. Take the coat hanger like so and bend it like a diamond shape like this. Then you take the pantyhose and you cut it, there you go, and you put it over the hanger on both sides. Put it over. Get all those wrinkles out. Get it all the way down. Take all the excess, bring it down, and bend the hook. Take the excess and wrap it around so it would be your handle. Take the tape. Just like so. You got your handle. And here you got it. It's a rocket.
Rocking rocket. Ready to play, John? Yep, ready. All right. Clear. Play with the coat. Oh, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little rusty, you know. Dear Zoom, did you ever feel like you had to be alone for some reason? I have and I wrote a poem about it all alone I want to fly away on a rising wind all alone I want to get away away from this world all alone I just have to get away from all confusion all
alone you know there's a big difference between being alone and being lonely what do you think it is from jimmy green of south boston mass i think that when you're lonely um like you're not occupied you're not doing anything you just you know blank but when you're alone you can you can be thinking about stuff you can your mind can be somewhere else even when you're just sitting there it doesn't necessarily mean you're lonely you could be lonely washing dishes you could be very I know, it doesn't matter what you're doing or who you're with, you can really be lonely. If you're with a hundred people, you can be lonely. I know, no one's just talking to me. You're just alone. You're not alone. Lonely. I think, um, that you're lonely because of you, because, like, you won't go out and play. Or maybe, like, there's a big party with lots and lots of people, and all you're doing is sitting in the corner.
You know, and everybody's meeting everybody. If you don't know any person, you know, you have to sit there where you go. I think that when you need to be alone, it's when, for me, it's when I just need to, you know, sit down and think. But being lonely is totally different. It's, you might be in a lot of confusion and just be lonely. The time that I feel that I should be alone, that I want to be alone is when, sometimes when I get really mad, I don't want to be around other people, so I'm like, I know, take it out on my pillow or something. And then after a while, after I'm alone, I get lonely because I stop thinking about what I, you know, what I was being lonely for. It's like, you could be lonely, but you can play a game or something by yourself.
But some people just, you know, just sit there and be lonely, you know? I know, there is a big difference between lonely and alone. Because your whole life depends on how you feel about what you're doing and stuff. You don't have to be lonely. That's if you feel lonely, you'll be lonely. I think that the root of all loneliness is you. wanting to be alone sadness happiness etc is you yourself definitely friends are a part of it but the basic thing is you you know what so many oh i've got plenty nothing and nothing's plenty for me. I got no chores, I got no school, I got no misery. The folks with plenty of plenty got a lock on the door. Afraid somebody's a-going to rub them while they're out of making more. What for? I got no lock on the door, that's no way to be
They can steal the rock from the floor, that's okay with me Cause the things that I prize, like the stars in the skies, are all green Oh, I got plenty and nothing, and nothing's plenty for me I got my gang, I got my song, got dancing the whole day long No use complaining Got my gal, got my guy, got my sack, got my pack, got my song, got my song, got my song. Got no diamonds, got no pearls, still I think I'm a lucky girl. I got the sun in the morning and the moon at night, she's got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. Got no mansion, got no yacht, still I'm happy with what I've got. I've got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. She's got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. Sunshine, give me a lovely day. Moonlight, give me the Milky Way.
I've got no checkbooks. I've got no banks. But still, I'd like to express my thank. I've got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. She's got the sun in the morning and the moon at night. And with the sun in the morning and the moon in the evening, I'm all right. Oh, I've got plenty of nothing, nothing's plenty for me I've got the sun, I've got the moon, I've got the deep blue sea The folks with plenty of plenty, gotta plan all the day I ain't a fear in the blues till the time arrives Never worry long as I'm well Never want to strive to be good, to be glad What the heck, I'm glad I'm alive Oh, I got plenty of nothing
Nothing's plenty for me I got my game, I got my song Got dancing the whole day long No use complaining Got my game Got my song Got my sun in the morning and the moon in the evening I'm alright! We need you. Major funding for Zoom has been provided by a grant from General Foods Corporation.
