- Description
- Series Description
- "FEELINGS...WITH DR. LEE SALK is a series of 13 half-hour public television programs in which Dr. Lee Salk, eminent child psychologist, interacts with young people between the ages of 7 and 14 years. Included in each program are brief dramatizations of family situations covering such topics as divorce, love, anger, sexuality, and making the family work, scenes which are designed to elicit [an] immediate and spontaneous reaction from the young participants and which serve as the springboard for the remainder of each program. "The programs are videotaped and edited to protect the children from perhaps making statements which may prove harmful to [them] at some later date. At the end of each program, Dr. Salk's closing statement helps the viewers at home draw the wisest and most helpful conclusion from the young peoples' comments and reactions. "FEELINGS...WITH DR. LEE SALK is unique in that it explores children's' responses to the forces and people surrounding them thereby investigating the family's impact on the emotional health of its young members. It offers children a forum to reveal their deepest fears and feelings while at the same time encouraging adults who view the program to consider the world through the eyes of children. "Throughout the series the child is treated with dignity and respect. Dr. Salk clearly shows his concern for the rights and feelings of young people saying in effect in each program, -- really respect you...to me you are very important and very special people. Together, we will try to help educate others on how you see this world.' Through FEELINGS...WITH DR. LEE SALK, the South Carolina Educational Television Network and the Public Broadcasting Service feel they have contributed a valuable and needed service toward family education."--1979 Peabody Awards entry form.
