Description
Episode Description
"THE POETICAL ART OF WILLIAM BLAKE is a half-hour presentation of his art and poetry produced for PBS television broadcast. William Blake was not only an extraordinary poet, but also a painter, engraver, and mystical philosopher whose works are unique in English literature. In the setting of an antiquarian print shop called 'Innocence and Experience,' specializing in Blake memorabilia, The First Poetry Quartet examines the many facets of his genius. Original and facsimile examples of Blake's engravings and paintings show how his art work illustrates and illuminates his written work. "George Backman and Norman Snow appear as the owners of the shop while Cynthia Herman and Jill Tanner portray two tourists stopping by to browse. Among the poems presented are 'Infant Joy,' 'The Chimney Sweeper,' 'London,' 'The Tyger,' 'Never Seek to Tell Thy Love,' and -- Asked a Thief.' The program closes with a choral rendition of Blake's famous hymn 'Jerusalem.'"--1977 Peabody Awards entry form.
