Greetings I'm Christie the wordsmith. Entomology and etymology. These near twin terms are often used interchangeably. One is associated with insects while the other has to do with word histories but which is which. And how can we distinguish the bug word from the word word. Etymology is the study of word origins and derivations etymologists explore the history of terms from language to language as far back in time as reliable records allow Greek in origin the word etymology records its family history in the terms at Amman which refers to the true sense of the word and the suffix l o g y meaning the study of etymology then is the scientific study of a word's true meaning. And now the etymology of Entomology the word arises from the observation that insects have bodies divided into head thorax and abdomen. Ent to Mon is Greek for segmented thing so entomology is the study
of segmented things or insects. This word entered the English language in the eighteenth century. You'll never scramble the dangerously similar etymology and entomology if you employ the simple mnemonic formula. And the name of a common insect sounds like the ant in entomology.
