but adamson metro mayor phil bredesen sat down to sign a two hundred ninety two million dollar agreement to bring the nfl franchise to nashville to play in a new stadium in nineteen ninety eight now that the team is coming to nashville the mayor says they've taken steps to assure the city and state that the team is staying for at least thirty years the contract includes significant penalties of the team pulls out early if there were any a move up and a part of a horse i don't think but we do have some new owner of the oilers or something at some point in the future the strong injunction provision there also are very strong financial penalties that would protect the taxpayers of the city the team were to just up and up and no country that's on the base of it is a thirty year contract with a ten year extension of them mothers there's no question in my mind that team is going to be here for thirty years owner but adams says he will be a good corporate citizen even if he momentarily forgets where he is really coming to nashville to take years but to give we will become involved in the community it would become or involve statewide we won again become involved in charitable ventures you're in
houston speaking out on tuesday then uses for almost fifty years now is this not least not the normal thing the science of other cities adam says he would like to play football and tennessee for the next two years even before the new stadium was built in nashville is looking potentially at memphis as an interim side but first in this work out a deal in houston where judges ruled the oilers must play in nineteen ninety six or ninety seven adams says he tried for two years to get a stadium for just his team in houston city officials refused to work with him saying the astrodome was adequate today adam seem to have mixed feelings about leaving texas remember it very well reticent not a great day for nashville
tennessee i do think that major league sports like this have a lot of tangible benefits to the community i think they have an enormous number of intangible benefits from the community everything from players going out and taking part in activities in the community to the national standing that it gives us to another facet that it puts on our image were well known as music city usa ever think this helps round out the image of the city as well good thing for the city and that's why i'm so strong supporter while the councils are frozen so strongly supportive of the metro council is the next hurdle for the plan the council will have to approve the agreement tuesday night then to seal the deal the city must sell at least eighty two luxury seats by january twentieth so nearly forty five thousand personal seat licenses by february and get approval from the tennessee general assembly the mayor reiterated today that bringing that was to nashville will not mean a tax increase the next up for adults is to conduct a state wide contest to name the new team for wpln i need about now here's john hall with scotty traffic
