- Episode Description
- The program opens with sports, opera house, and music clips, followed by an introduction in which the hosts, Katherine Linton and Greg Watt, reflect on 25 years of gay liberation. Kris Montgomery serves as the correspondent for the Stonewall 25 preview segment, which looks ahead to the Stonewall 25 celebrations and Gay Games. The segment National climate report is a mock weather report, and the segment Opera spotlight: opera fans by Alan Tulin features magazine art director Lenny Levine, interviews with authors Wayne Koestenbaum and James McCourt, clips from the Metropolitan Opera's production of Aida, and a brief discussion of Maria Callas' role as a gay icon. The Focus on drag segment gives a brief history of drag performance and spotlights New York City's Wigstock event, and features clips of drag performers, including RuPaul, Lady Bunny and Lypsinka (John Epperson). The Musical spotlight segment by Sheridan Bailey focuses on the No alternative album and other AIDS relief efforts put out by the non-profit Red Hot Organization. It features an interview with the founder, John Carlin, and clips from the home video release of No alternative, including a performance by the musical group Smashing Pumpkins, archival footage of David Wojnarowicz (visual artist/performer) reading poetry, the film No alternative girls by Tamara Davis, and Derek Jarman's video for Patti Smith's Memorial tribute (about Robert Mapplethorpe). The Independent commentary section is How gay are you? by Chrisanne Eastwood, followed by a preview of next week. The show concludes with the Jimmy Somerville video From this moment on.
