That's a wonderful swing on one of the greatest bassy sides of that period of course Shorty George 1938 for which bassy gets the credit most of those were head arrangements Everybody contributing an idea or two, the thing finally getting itself worked up but it was always a loose band Changes being made, one of the things that kept the music fresh of course That was Harry Edison on trumpet preceding Lester and Lester with a beautiful relaxed swing solo And a bit of Benny Morton's trombone there too along with bassy's piano, those with a soloist Sexist sounded nice in that last bridge to Shorty George

I think we heard a couple from the same date yesterday Let's see, this was a zone group, wasn't it? Blue lester? I think so And now there's a little leader, lest young quintet, but he borrowed the bassy rhythm section that was it And now there's a fine reissue set on Savoy which may still be around a lot of those with this title as a matter of fact blue lester And now there's a fine reissue set on Savoy which may still be around a lot of those with this title as a matter of fact
For a pair For a pair For a pair

For a pair For a pair Yeah, another nice small band date when we didn't hear from yesterday In 1944 was it? No, 1943, just after the record band ended, everybody started recording madly again
It was Dicky Welles' date actually and it was on Bob Teals' signature label And then we had Dickey with Leicester, again, as he wasn't those other sides for a keynote. And here Bill Coleman again, also, so we had the same front line, and it was interesting. The Ellis Lockins on piano, Freddie Green's guitar, Al Hall on bass, and Joe Jones on drums, two men out of the bassy rhythm section, little blue, slow-ish, and then upish, cold. I'm for it too, for which Dickey Wells gets composed. He was a credit, he was the first soloist too. Nice reassure set on these sides too, four from this session, and eight distributed between two other sessions, which involved Coleman Hawkins, the other pole of the classic tenor style.
And that's the title of the set, two classic tenor, as a matter of fact, Coleman Hawkins and Leicester Young. I'm for it too, for some bassy, and some tote tap and music. Here. Okay. . .

. . . . . There you go, it's fine writer that is. Texas Shuffle, for which Herschel Evans gets composed of credit, Herschel only on the need bar, son of there. Bassist Piano, opening the proceedings as he often did, then Harry Edison on trumpet, and Lester on clarinet, one of the several recorded clarinet solos with bassist. As I said yesterday, a distinctive style in that instrument too, got a pretty sound.
He played it again on a few sessions in the 50s, a couple of sessions, but his tone had roughened up at that time. This was P. Lester, and Dickie Wales on trombone following young there, the son of line up. Yeah, Texas Shuffle, from 1938 on that one. Count Basie and the orchestra. Brunswick, Decker Stuff, still around. That doesn't stay in the catalog, we'll all have to rebel, I suppose. Go down there and pick it. It's stomping. Make a lot of noise. Yeah. This is not nearly as well known with the basic classics of that period. Same tempo, and we get some good bassist stride here, followed by an interesting solo from Lester, kind of restless and yet relaxed on this one. He follows Basie, and Basie is stride is quite appropriate,
because it's fat, rose. Did he say anything?
No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. . . . . . .

. . . . . . . Magnificent, absolutely magnificent. That was the session that took place, well, almost accidentally. It really wasn't planned.
1945. They were on the 12-inch, 78-sides originally, and they put together eight of them. On a fine ververy issue, you sat cold, the last young buddy Ritz Trier. Because of his contract with Capital. Bill here is AE Guy. Los Angeles, 1945. Buddy Ritz on drums. Lest young on tenor. Lest young Buddy Ritz Trier is the album billing. I want to be happy. Vincent humans, Irving Caesar. This is a longer going to take us way past magical hour. I suppose so. I'm going to get in here, I think. Oh, that lest a son of them. Sinyue and strong. But always with that grace, that floating over the beat. And those unique phrases that were all his own. Where did that star come from? One of the great originals in the whole history of jazz. Just jazz, Ed Beach with you. And the second part of our two-part feature on
Prime lest young. From the thirties and the forties. As it is. Okay. This is an encore for Lester and for Nat. And it's pretty. For me. . . . . .
