Hey there and welcome to our three of Friday night jazz on VPR. I'm your host Rubin Jackson. As promised, more music by Mr. Marcus Miller. This is taken from M. Squared. Earlier in the program, we heard a piece called Take the Coltrane written by Duke Ellington. This composition written by John Coltrane kind of funked up in the most beautiful way possible by Marcus Miller and friends. It is entitled Lonnie's Lament. Marcus Miller from 2001. Wow. The collection is called M. Squared. Beginning the third and final
hour of this edition of Friday night jazz on VPR with Rubin Jackson and we heard John Coltrane's Lonnie's Lament. For great jazz 24 hours a day, wherever you are, check out VPR jazz 24. You can listen at vpr.net and on your smartphone up next a new release by gentleman who's been playing for any number of years. I first became aware of his work with the latter day incarnations of the Clark Dornhill Orchestra, the late 1940s incarnation of same. When you had people like Jerry Mulligan writing arrangements for the group in Gill Evans, this is a alto saxophoneist Lee Connitz. His new release is called Frust Galato. Lee Connitz on alto sax and vocals Kenny Barron on piano,
Peter Washington on double bass and Kenny Washington on drums. That is a bad, bad, bad, band. This piece is called a thing in written by Lee Connitz and his variations on all the things you are. To quote the late Don Cornelius, we've got Lee Connitz getting that stuff tough enough here in our
three of Friday Night Jazz on Vermont Public Radio with Rubin Jackson. Once again, Lee Connitz on alto sax vocals on some tracks, Kenny Barron on piano, Peter Washington double bass, Kenny Washington on drums and variations on all the things you are Lee Connitz's singing. Next one of the true poets of this music. This recorded back in 1976 so it's roughly four years before his death in September of 1980. The artist in question pianist Bill Evans. This is his ensemble featuring Eddie Gomez on bass and Elliot Ziegman on drums. Recorded in
Madison, Wisconsin, November 15, 1976. The collection called On a Monday Evening. The Bill Evans trio and this is Jerome Kerns up with the Lark. The Bill Evans trio from On a Monday evening here in our three of Friday Night Jazz on VPR,
the recording again on a Monday evening and a piece I think Bill Evans really came to own, frequently heard from like the mid 70s up until 1980 and you know I would argue that Bill Evans certainly continued to reimagine music. You know someone who had a great melodic sensibility, a great understanding of harmony and he just kept growing and growing left very soon, left the earth very soon after well you know four years after with the music, my goodness the music. Here's a bit of it like I said once again Jerome Kerns up with the Lark in our three of the program happy Friday, stick around we're not quite done yet. Vocalist Ilyani Ilias from Dance of Time, her newest follows up Bill Evans and what we'll listen to speak low. Hello?
Lonely Speak List Lost in the dark, just so, just so, just so Low Dark, speak low Love is a spark, lost in the dark, too soon, too soon, too I feel, I feel, wherever I go Tomorrow is near, now it's you, always too soon
Low When you speak low Love is a summer day, withers away, just so, just so, just so, just so, just so I weigh, darling, I weigh Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so. Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so.
Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so. Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so. Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so.
Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so. Tomorrow is near, now it's here, always just so. Kurt Vile speak low recorded by vocalist pianist Iliani Ilius here in hour three of Friday night jazz on Vermont Public Radio from the Dance of Time and we heard Kurt Vile's speak low.
Another reminder because you might hear some Iliani Ilius for great jazz 24 hours a day wherever you are check out VPR jazz 24. You can listen at vpr.net and on your smartphone. The mic Longotrio from only time will tell now you know we talked well from the beginning of the year but 100 birthdays you know real icons Delonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Tad Dameron, Ella Fitzgerald and Delonius Monk as I said before is included in this.
