WNYC announcer Tommy Cowan sets the scene from the federal courthouse at Foley Square in New York City. Colonel Cunningham calls the meeting to order. Albert N. Halberstadt, general advertising manager for Proctor and Gamble, testifies.
Series Description
"The Federal Communications Commission hearings carried in their entirety over WNYC represented a milestone in broadcasting by radio. It brought to the public for the first time the advertising managers of various nationally advertised brands, the advertising agency representatives and FCC members as they quizzed the participants on practices, policies and methods of television advertising. "The hundreds of letters and post cards, the press acclamation and the general enthusiasm that greeted these broadcasts proved that government-industry relationships and methods of achieving goals of both make excellent public service program material."--1961 Peabody Awards entry form.
