In this particular LateNight program, well-known actor and comedian Sid Caesar shares with our audience some of his [traumatic] ups and downs of his career. We see behind-the-scenes of one of the best in the business, your host of 'Your Show of Shows.' In the second half of the show, we meet a lovely young woman, Jean Mountoussamy-Ashe whose crusade to save the last undeveloped island off the coast of South Carolina (Daufuskie Island) is admirable. Series Description
"PBS LateNight is America's late night, call-in talk show and on Tuesday, January 4, 1983, LateNight celebrated its one year anniversary. Hosted by Dennis Wholey, the show is broadcast five nights a week, Monday through Friday across the country to nearly 100 cities. For late night viewers everywhere, PBS LateNight fills the need for a balanced diet of information and entertainment. Our guests have included Watergater John Dean, political cartoonist Jules Feiffer, best-selling author Judith Krantz, Rev. Jerry Falwell, actor Ed Asner, NBC anchor Jessica Savitch, actress Cybill Shepard, columnist Jack Anderson, and UAW leader, Doug Fraser. Each week night, our host, Dennis Wholey invites viewers all over the country to join in, via telephone and speak directly with our LateNight guests. PBS LateNight currently averages approximately 4000 attempted phone calls per night and in the twelve months we have been broadcasting over 1 million calls have been placed - all at the viewers' expense.
