"'The Crash of '87' is an edition of The Kwitny Report, a weekly half-hour new program with host, Jonathan Kwitny, an award-winning investigative reporter and author. At the start of this show, Mr. Kwitny asks if 'Reaganomics' and, in particular, supply-side economics can be held responsible for 'Black Monday.' His guests are three of this country's most distinguished economist-writers, all of whom have very different views on Reagonomics, on the recent stock market collapse, and on the long term health of the U.S. economy. "The guests are: 1) George Gilder, author of Wealth and Poverty, 2) Alfred Malabre, economics editor for the Wall Street Journal; 3) Robert Heilbroner, author of the classic college textbooks 'The Worldly Philosophers' and professor at the New School for Social Research. No consensus is reached and no definitive answer emerges, but the penetrating discussion of this crucial issue is a sobering and significant indication of the complexity and dimension of our current economic crisis. "The Kwitny Report began one year ago. It is produced by WNYC-TV in New York City and airs in New York, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Philadelphia and Indianapolis.
