Series Description
"This is material from a series of 8 monthly programs called FREE ASSEMBLY. "The series was designed as an example of the exercise of free speech and free assembly in pure principle. "Two reels are submitted. Number one is a 55 minute complete except for about five minutes lost while reloading the kinescope recorder. This is approximately 100 St. Louis citizens debating the merits of a proposed new city charter. "Reel number two is a thirty minute program which was designed as a summary which would both evaluate the series and seek to capture its essence. It contains excerpts from three different programs. The longest segment runs 12 minutes and concerns the use of the 5th Amendment before Congressional committees. The shorter segments deal with segregated housing and with the city charter."-- 1957 Peabody Awards entry form.
