"Judging from the fan mail, WTTW did Nelson and Jeanette fans a big favor when we produced an affectionate retrospective of their careers. "The famous musical duo of Depression Era Hollywood, Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy presented an on-screen romance so believable that their fans expected their relationship to extend off scree. This tribute traces the careers of MacDonald and Eddy which began in 1835 when Louis B. Mayer, head of MGM studios, paired the two in the operetta NAUGHTY MARIETTA, which became one of Hollywood's top-grossing films and was nominated for an Academy Award. "This documentary aims to display the special highlights of their career, from their middle-class upbringings to superstardom, with the use of full-length scenes from their most popular movies, selected clips from their most famous roles, along with interviews from those who knew them well. Jane Powell, having worked with Jeanette in THREE DARING DAUGHTERS, narrates."--1993 Peabody Awards entry form.
