Program Description
"This production of 'Ariadne auf Naxos', by Richard Strauss, was the first co-production of The Florentine Opera of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Public and Educational Television. The two act opera is presented in its entirety and was shot in performance at Milwaukee's Performing Arts Center. "The production merits Peabody consideration because: It is an example of cooperative interaction on the local level to produce quality, yet affordable, performance programming. There was a concentrated effort to provide for the viewing audience a visual and aural introduction to each act of the opera. This is an effort to utilize television techniques to enhance audience enjoyment and understanding of the work. It represents the commitment by this public television station to provide facilities and personnel to support the cultural activities of its community."--1991 Peabody Awards entry form.
