Description
Series Description
"RADIO SMITHSONIAN is a weekly radio series capturing the thoughts, collections, explorations and performances found at the largest museum complex in the world. Each program is a half-hour in length and combines music and information into a magazine format. Hosted by Roger Kennedy, director of the National Museum of American History, the series is intended for a general radio audience with the same interests and curiosities as the millions of people who visit the Smithsonian. "The entry program, 'Sounds Like New York,' presents a sample of the Manhattan soundscape with segments on the Dance Theater of Harlem, the folklore of cab drivers and the history of the Empire State Building. The program also features original jazz improvisations recorded in the Cloisters of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Bridge and a subway platform."--1989 Peabody Awards entry form.
