- Series Description
- "GETTIN' TO KNOW ME is a series about a contemporary black family, the Jacksons, whose lifestyles and activities incorporate many aspects of black folklore. In this episode Tyrone, a young black runaway from Philadelphia, comes south in search of his Aunt Clarice. Tyrone hides in the woods behind the Jackson home, surviving solely on the vegetables he has stolen from their garden. One day he sneaks up to the house to observe the family and is caught by Mike. The Jacksons withhold punishment and instead take him in as part of their extended family. They learn of his plight and attempt to help him find his Aunt Clarice. During his stay with the Jacksons, Tyrone shares in household responsibilities and learns the importance of preserving family ties and traditions."--1979 Peabody Awards entry form.
