Description
Program Description
"Dive to the Edge of Creation A mile-and-a-half beneath the ocean surface -- where no one thought life could exist -- strange, exotic forms of sea life flourish. Geologist Dr. Robert Ballard and biologist Dr. J. Frederick Grassle lead a multimillion dollar deep-dive expedition off the Galapagos Islands, where sea life forms are nourished by bacteria that convert chemicals into organic matter."--1980 Peabody Awards entry form. Grassle and Ballard board an ungainly ship with a fanciful name, Lulu, that's went down in history as a mother ship of the century's most startling discovery of marine life. These men lead teams of scientists on the most exciting expedition of their lives. An expedition that reveal sites no one has ever seen before. The scientists explore the deep sea in the submersible Alvin that's equipped with a revolutionary television camera to capture unprecedented motion pictures of strange creatures in the black abyss.
