- Description
- Program Description
- "A ninety minute telecast, celebrating the 33 year evolution of the American Ballet Theater. The program pays tribute to America's oldest and most distinguished dance company, now the official company of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. "The production was in color and was staged especially for television, featuring excerpts from the company's diverse repertoire."-- 1973 Peabody Awards entry form. The program highlights the importance of American ballet and its differences from previous, classical works. It features interviews with Agnes de Mille, an American dancer and choreographer, and Antony Tudor, the British choreographer who was a resident choreographer at the American Ballet theater. The program features few dances from the American Ballet theater and Pillar of Fire in its entirety.
