Series Description
"'The Connection' with Christopher Lydon made its debut on WBUR-FM, Boston's NPR affiliate, on Labor Day, 1994. The program is unlike anything else on radio, combining call-in talk radio with interesting guests and inventive, short set-up pieces that begin each program. The Boston Globe said 'The Connection' has some of the best programs on the Massachusetts elections anywhere in the electronic media, and that it displays eclecticism and a sense of humor. We have submitted four distinctive programs, which reflect a sample of our work we think appropriate for the entertainment category of the awards. Program one, 'Re-engineering,' is about re-engineering and downsizing in the economy with two Cambridge business journalists. Program two, 'The Camille Backlash,' is a follow up broadcast to the previous day's 'Connection' interview with feminist author Camille Paglia. Program three, 'The Perfect Crime,' begins with our own idea of a perfect crime, and is followed by the perfect crimes of listeners. Program four, 'How People Meet,' explores the dating scene in the 90's, beginning with a visit to a service center providing personal ads and teledating services for hundreds of newspapers across the country."--1994 Peabody Awards entry form.
