Description
Series Description
"Each week, five widely-read and acerbic national columnists get together to discuss six issues of the day. The result: a televised newspaper called THE McLAUGHLIN GROUP. "With Washington Executive Editor of The National Review John McLaughlin at the helm, Patrick Buchanan and Robert Novak on starboard, and Morton Kondracke and Jack Germond portside, viewers are in for an intelligent, stimulating, and unrehearsed discussion of the week's news. Viewers are also given the opportunity to hear the opinions of five influential columnists on domestic and international issues, enjoy their free-wheeling attempts to challenge each other, and to keep in mind the predictions the group is required to make each week. "Be the topic deficit, artificial hearts, or detente, it is handled with assurance and in a substantive manner by the five, whose underlying respect for each other is communicated even in their most heated discussions. "Now in its third year, THE McLAUGHLIN GROUP is as popular in Washington, D.C., as it is in the rest of the country. Rep. Jack Kemp (R-New York) has called it 'the hardest-hitting, most contentious and interesting show on the air.' From the other side of the aisle, Senator Ernest 'Fritz' Hollings (D-South Carolina) says, 'It's fast-paced, informative. It shows more sense than a thousand Stockman budget proposals.' For acute analysis of the events of our time, THE McLAUGHLIN GROUP is not to be missed."--1984 Peabody Awards entry form.
