Description
Series Description
"Color-Sounds is a regularly scheduled series of educational television programs teaching basic education in the upper elementary grades using music video tapes (provided free by artists and record companies). Color captioned lyrics are inserted over the video. Color-Sounds is used to teach reading, grammar and spelling. In addition to the videos, which to date have been fed via SECA, and in 1984 will be distributed via PBS, Color-Sounds provides at a nominal cost classroom ready instruction materials which correlate with the music videos, crayons where unavailable, free posters and records for incentives, and a newspaper-reader with interviews, games, puzzles, etc. for additional instructional reinforcement both in and out of the classroom. Enclosed is a sample of a mid-December tape from Color-Sounds, a composite of media stores about the program, sample materials of instruction and endorsements from knowledgeable people in the educational field. It has been said, 'Color-Sounds is the most exciting educational concept to emerge in several decades. It is educationally sound for basic reading, convenient and adaptable for the instructor, and has proven results in both test scores and attitude change. Besides, the kids (of all ages) love it..' Using the common genre of popular music via music videos Color-Sounds has captured the interest of young people and is teaching them to read."--1983 Peabody Awards entry form.
