- The three excerpts in this compilation are (1) the opening sequence of Breaking the cycle; (2) the story of Kareem Gray, and (3) the story of Craig Moore. The first clip identifies topics to be discussed and includes comments from the other two clips. The second clip opens with the African proverb, It takes an entire community to raise a child, and shows how this is true for Kareem Gray as he tries to stay clear of the gang activity in his section of town. The last clip opens with the African proverb, Where I made a living, there is my home, and features Craig Moore, a Southshore businessman who is trying to improve the area where he works and lives. The three clips are used in the program Facing violence, Breaking the cycle which aired on April 27, 1994.[With:] Dr. Carolyn Rebecca Block, Ill. Criminal Justice Information Authority; R. Olomenji O'Connor, project facilitator, Project Peace; Craig Moore, Southshore resident; Kareem Gray, 7th grader; Carol Gray Hingleton, Kareem's mother; Linda Gaddis, Kareem's teacher; Ken Butler, friend and mentor [of a murdered boy]; Charles Kinnison, community activist.
