Series Description
"Kentucky Educational Television provided comprehensive coverage of the 70th annual NAACP convention. From June 25th [through] the 29th KET aired and distributed ten and one half hours of nightly programming via satellite to more than 100 public and commercial stations. "Each [night's] coverage included an hour of live convention activities featuring major speeches by Executive Director Benjamin Hooks, Vice President Walter Mondale and Georgia State Congressman Julian Bond to name a few. "The second hour of nightly coverage consisted of highlights of that [day's] activities including speeches, news conferences and workshop sessions. In addition to daily coverage, a 90-minute highlights program covering the convention activities for the entire week was produced. "The entry tape is compiled of segments from our final highlights program covering the first four days of the convention. The tape also includes some of the major policy statements made by the association on such issues as the Bakke case and Brian Weber verses Kaiser Aluminum. "In comparing our national coverage to that of newspapers, CBS news correspondent Ed Bradley noted that print information about the convention was good, but there just wasn't enough of it. Bradley thanked us for our thorough coverage and added that our broadcasts provided him with more information than any newspaper he had read."--1979 Peabody Awards entry form.
