"Adoption In America takes a hard look at 'special needs' children -- minority, handicapped, older children -- waiting to be adopted. In a fast-paced magazine format the show will include segments on: a couple who adopted two Downs Syndrome children; a profile of a Vietnamese boy well-adjusted to his family; a Vietnamese family that has been reunited in America; an examination of the disproportionately high number of black children waiting to be adopted; and a young woman's search for her natural black mother. "Adoption In America also includes comments from Newsweek columnist [George F. Will]; WACAC executive director Laurie Flynn; Elizabeth Cole, director of the North American Center on Adoption; and Sidney Duncan, executive director of Homes for Black Children."--1980 Peabody Awards entry form.
