Series Description
"The American Century was a large scale retrospective of American music composed in the twentieth century by American composers. The weekly one hour program focused on the vast scope and variety of American serious music written in this century and included a wide range of American music that was new to the majority of the listening public. When looked at closely, the music of the United States during the twentieth century is one of the glories of this country; and by broadcasting over one hundred and fifty American composers on this program we have given the audience a chance to judge for themselves the extent of this flourishing culture."--1999 Peabody Awards entry form.
