Description
Series Description
"ITT's SALUTE TO THE ARTS has been heard on WQXR for more than 18 years and June LeBell, the program's host, writer, programmer and producer, is the recipient of a dozen major awards for outstanding radio broadcasts including seven Angels, two Gabriels, a Clarion Award and a silver medal from the International Radio Festival of New York. "Each week on Salute to the Arts, Ms. LeBell sets out to entertain, uplift and educate her listeners with a musical visit to a major cultural institution, classical music personality or tour of a music center, art museum or summer festival. "The program devoted to Gilbert Levine, heard April 12, 1995, told the story of the American-born conductor's work as Music Director of the Krakow Philharmonic and his meeting with the Pope. The second concert, The Holocaust Memorial, was televised around the world. Excerpts from these concerts accompany Gilbert Levine as he tells his poignant story. And the program culminates with an excerpt of the Pope himself speaking about the Holocaust which Ms. LeBell placed over the moving music of Bruch's Kol Nidre."--1995 Peabody Awards entry form.
