No Wayne State University improvisation chamber ensemble was organized in 1966 by Dr. Ruth Wylie. The group was originally conceived as a teaching aid but soon it was receiving enthusiastic reactions from concert audiences during the past year Dr. Wiley's Chamber Ensemble has performed in several states in an entirely new idiom of musical performance has been developed by the performances still maintain their experimental character. Now here with tonight's programme of improvisation is Professor Ruth Wylie of Wayne State University. Our first number this evening especially for the program. Why.
Be. On be. Be. One. Why. Why. Why.
Why. Why. Why. Why. Why.
Who. Why.
I neglected at the beginning of the program to mention the names of our group. And
just since some of you may be hearing our program for the first time I think I'd better do that. John Raya and Jim Hart way are pianists with the group and both are composers also who write structured plans for the group and both also in addition play the percussion instruments. Our double bass player is Don Lewandowski. Our trumpet player is Frank Buckholtz the clarinet is Virginia Cantonese and I play the flute and occasionally piano. And now for our next truck schuld piece we're going to do one by Jim Hart way. This is an Allegro by Jim Hart way. All of the instruments are involved in the piece. I am singing and. Thank. You
and. Thank. We have some time left as you realize on the program and as we usually do we're going to play one or more free improvisations depending upon the amount of time that we have left and the first one that we will do is similar to one that we have done before but we're doing it on special request by the electronic engineers who have been recording all taping all these programs for us. For some reason maybe it was because it was a jolly good show. They they want us to do it again. A free improvisation involving piano and percussion and a third player who will
be playing so to speak inside of the piano with the strings in the wood and so on for special percussive effects in combination with piano and the percussion instruments. I will be playing the piano when this Mr. Hart way. We'll be doing the percussion and Mr. Ray as I told you on the other broadcast which may not have happened yet. We'll be playing inside of the piano with with mallets and plucking the strings and so on. So give me a second to get over to the piano. Please.
Please. Please. We have just finished playing a free improvisation for three performers.
One at the piano one alongside of and inside the piano and the other percussion. I was at the piano jam heart way on percussion and Mr Raya getting percussive effects from the piano. As we sat down we decided that we would make the piece four minutes and I don't know how we do it. But just as we cleared off our last chord the four minute flash card came up. You get so that you get a pretty good timing sense after a while. Well we're going to conclude our program with another free improvisation. And we've changed our mind so often about what's going to be involved with it that I may have to correct myself here but I believe it is for flute clarinet double bass and piano. So we will now do we have no idea what we're going to do we're just going to start out flute clarinet piano and double bass. That was short and sweet and our remaining time is is rather short. Also
this concludes our program for this evening and thank you and good night. It was. Cook. That was Professor Ruth Wylie with the Wayne State University improvisation Chamber Ensemble.
