Description
Program Description
"The Morgan Choir: A Silver Celebration highlights one of the nation's most prestigious university choral ensembles and salutes Dr. Nathan Carter, who has led the choir for 25 years. Returning alumni swell the ranks of the choir to over 200 voices as they sing a diverse repertoire ranging from classical to gospel. "The program begins with a Moses Hogan arrangement of the traditional spiritual 'Elijah Rock,' performed a cappella and demonstrating the choir's hallmark style. 'Great Is Thy Faithfulness' is performed by Ernest Saunders, whose counter-tenor voice rings bell-like in this gospel rendition. The classically inspired 'It Is Well' features coloratura soprano Elizabeth Norman, winner of the 1996 Metropolitan Opera National Auditions, Kishna Davis, winner of the San Francisco Opera's 1995 Merola Program, and Kenniethia Redden-Mitchell, a masters candidate at the Julliard. 'I Gotta Sing My Song' is given a stirring 'pop' delivery by Tanya Blount, named Best New Artist of the Year by the '95 Soul Train Music Awards. "So successful when produced as a local broadcast (vying with Riverdance and The Three Tenors in membership pledges), The Morgan Choir: A Silver Celebration was crafted into an hour special, premiering on PBS Christmas Eve, 1997."--1997 Peabody Awards entry form.
