- Series Description
- "When the Metropolitan Museum of Art proposed that WQXR do a series of remote broadcasts from the Met to showcase its vast resources, we wanted to do more than talk about beautiful paintings and sculpture and play art-oriented music. We wanted our audience to understand that the Met, far from being a static 'mausoleum,' is actually a vibrant, dynamic institution whose serene galleries belie the enormous intellectual and physical energy that percolates just below the surface. So we decided to explore every corner of the museum that we could, and to present the people whose efforts kept it a great cultural institution. We began with a promo whose design made clear that the 'visit' would be packed with energy and information, and that they would focus on the fascinating, intellectually vigorous people who make the museum what it is-- and we reinforced that message with a new promo every day of the remote. Then, over five days, we broadcast live from six different locations, all favorite 'destinations' in the museum, and our wireless microphone enabled us to visit several more. The people we met, the things we talked about, and the thematic music we programmed made for good radio, and it helped attract a near-record number of visitors to the museum on our last day."--1997 Peabody Awards entry form.
