Greetings This is Christie the wordsmith. Scores of our most durable expressions come from the pages of the Bible. Your days are numbered. An eye for an eye and wheels within wheels are phrases taken from Old Testament scripture. Consider another biblically inspired phrase. No rest for the wicked. This is Old Testament fare at its finest. It's taken from the book of Isaiah chapter 48. The short 20 second verse which says simply there is no Peace says the Lord for the wicked are related sentiment occurs again just a few chapters later. The wicked are like the tossing sea which cannot rest. These expressions literally imply that those who are inclined toward evil can expect no peace or relief from trouble. It's often used ironically by someone be deviled by interruptions or endless trivial tasks. The phrase has proven useful in pop culture. No rest for the wicked was the title of a 1988 album by British Heavy Metal artist Ozzy Osborne. And
here it is used in a 2004 Joe waiter's Muscle and Fitness magazine quote a popular expression among corporate climbers and Ozzy Osborne album from the 1980s and now an all new way to work out. No rest for the wicked baby. OK so you may not be wicked but your muscle development could be if you shorten the rest periods between your weightlifting sets. Unquote. I'm Christie the wordsmith from Montana State University in Bozeman. CHRISTIE The wordsmith is sponsored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Zoot enterprises a high tech firm in Bozeman Montana offering challenging careers and innovative solutions for the financial services industry sued web dot com.
