Greetings Group of course. Last time on Kristi the wordsmith we considered sub prime. The word of the Year for 2007 according to the American Dialect Society a group of scholars and students that annually select a term thought to best represent the discourse of the previous 12 months. Meanwhile another company of word watchers under the aegis of the New Oxford American Dictionary gathered in late 2007 to nominate and vote for its word of the year. This group happened to select a term that reflects a growing focus on buying and eating local sustainable and seasonally available foods. And the winner according to The New Oxford American Dictionary locavore L O C a v o r e or a person who endeavors to eat only locally produced foods. Locavore was coined in 2005 by Jessica Prentice one of four San Francisco women who actively champion local food systems. Prentice writes in her blog quote locavore combines roots derived from

two Latin words locus meaning place and to swallow the literal meaning of a locavore then is one who swallows the place and the folks at New Oxford American Dictionary saw enough potential in this coinage to vote it word of the Year for 2007.
