Greetings I'm Christie the wordsmith. American writer and word watcher Paul Dixon has an impressive roster of publications in 1900 to Dixon compiled a work entitled The Great American ice cream book and followed it up over the decades with at least 50 other titles such as Chow A Cook's Tour of military food the Dickson Baseball Dictionary war slang the Congress dictionary and slang the topical Dictionary of American isms. But in 2009 Paul Dixon introduced what might be the most curious compendium of his 40 year publishing career. It's called Drunk the definitive drinkers dictionary. This is a cornucopia of synonyms for the word drunk such as blitzed stewed and schlock heard in his introduction. Dixon admits that he has long wanted to compile a record shattering list of drunk words so he writes With the help of many fine lexicographers researchers doctors bartenders strangers and friends. I submit this my latest list of two thousand nine hundred sixty four synonyms
for SE. Paul Dixon and others who watch the whirly gig of slang have observed that there are more euphemisms and synonyms for drunk in the English language than there are for any other word. And Dixon in his introduction reckons why this is so on following words with additions will take a look at the author's logic and peruse some of the many offerings in Paul Dickson's drunk the definitive drinkers dictionary.
