Greetings I'm Christie the wordsmith. Last time on this series we explored the Facts on File dictionary of Biblical and classical allusions. A fascinating work containing 2000 references to Greek Roman Norse and Egyptian mythology and to biblical characters and concepts. If you're a lover of classical literature this dictionary will seem like an alphabetical lineup of old friends from a new Bas to Bucephalus from Esau to Woden. The dictionary of Biblical and classical allergens also defines such familiar concepts as the four horsemen of the apocalypse dog days and Elysian Fields. Martin H Manzer and David H Pickering edited the Facts on File dictionary of Biblical and classical allusions and they write in their introduction an illusion is a reference that evokes a certain set of aspects or features of a person or thing. A kind and selfless person for example may be referred to as a Good Samaritan. A place that is
notorious for its depravity and vice may be likened to Sodom and Gomorrah or a fatal weakness may be referred to as a person's a killer as he'll. These three are Lucian's and a couple thousand more are outlined in the wonderful Facts on File dictionary of Biblical and classical Lucian's published in paperback by checkmark books. You can find this dictionary at your library or bookstore. I'm Christie the wordsmith. Good day verb of course.
