Welcome to the Montana Medicine Show. I'm Derrick strong. Evelyn Cameron was Eastern Montana's Victorian feminist photographer biographer Donna Lucy observed. She seemed to harvest the very energy of her surroundings and turn that power into a refined way of living. Cameron was born on a rambling English estate in 1868 following her Montana honeymoon Cameron and her husband Hugh and settled on a hardscrabble ranch near Terry. Cameron was nearly arrested for wearing a daring slit skirt to simplify horseback riding her pets included an antelope hawks and a pair of wolf cubs. She declared manual labor will really make a strong woman. I like to break Colts brand calves cut down trees ride and work in the garden. Cameron's photography brought in extra income. She brave snake infested terrain lugging her camera and tripod to document prairie weddings sheep shearing stress ulit Badlands and all manner of wildlife. To journalist Malcolm Jones
Cameron went after everything around her men women and children of all economic and ethnic backgrounds stand on an equal footing before her camera. Fifty years after her 1928 death researchers unearthed Cameron's astounding legacy thousands of dust covered glass plate negatives original photographic prints and thirty five handwritten journals.
