Greetings and welcome to Christie the wordsmith. In 18 0 2 English poet William Wordsworth composed a short verse titled My heart leaps up it reads My heart leaps up when I behold a rainbow in the sky. So it was when my life began. So it is now I am a man. So be it when I shall grow old. The child is father of the man that memorable last line from Wordsworth poem cannot be found in our vast roster of English language proverbs. The child is father of the man. The Words defy logic but the skillful poetic sentiment tells us something that every parent has observed a child's native personality determines or is father of his adult character. Wordsworth writes that when he was a boy he loved the sight of a rainbow. A thrill that followed him into adulthood like Wordsworth all of us can point back to attitudes beliefs and notions of beauty. We fostered as children that are with us still as adults
Wordsworth's 19th century expression shows up in modern writings as well. New York Times journalist James Gorman in a 1993 media article wrote as they used to say the child is father of the man and as they say now the television is parent to the person.
