Welcome to the Montana Medicine Show. I'm Derrick strong. He worked for more than 50 years for the Great Northern Railway saw some 20 U.S. presidents come and go and lived in three centuries. That's journalist Daniel Bates describing the remarkably long life of one hundred and fourteen year old Great Falls resident Walter broiling. Walter Breuning is the world's oldest living man. He was born in Melrose Minnesota in 1897. He spent his childhood with no electricity running water or plumbing in what he called the Dark Ages. Browning moved to Great Falls Montana in 1918. His wife Agnes a telegraph operator died in 1957. He never remarried declaring second marriages never work. Even first marriages don't work today. Broiling remains lucid and in excellent health. He still remembers the day President William McKinley was shot in 1901. As the day I got my first haircut when asked about the secret to his long life Walter quipped cigarettes
whisky and wild wild women. Despite his world fame broiling remains modest. I could go tomorrow and someone else would be the oldest man on earth so it doesn't mean that much to me at his hundred thirteenth birthday Walter offered this thought. Life's length is not measured by its days but by that which we have done there in our useless life is short if it lasts a century. There are greater and better things in us all. If we would find them out. From cage realty studios I'm Derrick strong. Montana medicine shows supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
