Greetings This is Christy Smith Christie the wordsmith from Montana State University in Bozeman. According to Greek mythology the Gorgons were three monstrous sisters with necks covered in dragon scales claws of broads and teeth of curled boars tusks live snakes writhed and hissed from the Gorgons heads where hair should have grown the most fabled of these horrible sisters was Medusa whom tradition says was once a beautiful woman. Unfortunately Medusa made herself a rival of Athena the goddess of beauty itself. Jealous Athena turned upon Medusa and cursed her with terrible disfigurement and a poisonous spite so fierce was Medusa's hatred that a glance from her eyes turned animals and humans to stone petrified corpses littered the entrance to her cavern. Even the immortals feared the wrath of the hideous Gorgon Medusa but finally a brave warrior god named Perseus vanquished Medusa guided by the reflection on his shields or glass could not kill him. Perseus drew near the sleeping Gorgon and beheaded her. He gave the head to Athena
who attached it to the middle of her shield as a protective talisman.
