Greetings word lovers and welcome to Christie the wordsmith. In the murky light of the Greek underworld. We witness a strange spectacle a weary man stands beside a massive boulder at the bottom of a hill spreading his arms. The man strains to move the huge rock up the incline. He slowly coaxes his burden upward until nearing the crest of the hill. Just as he reaches the top the man suddenly loses his footing and he and the boulder careened to the bottom. To our wonder the weary laborer stands up to Renu his bizarre task. The man is a Greek mortal named ASIS offis his wretched labor is punishment for having twice outwitted the gods. When it came time for sophist to die he resisted by capturing and binding Hades the God of the dead. After his second call to the underworld sissified eluded Hades once again escaping to the land of the living. Captured a third and final time sis offis was sentenced by Hades to forever push an enormous boulder uphill
only to have it roll down before reaching the top. Today the phrase Sicilian task refers to an endless burden or labor in a February 2011 New York Times article focusing on the winters back to back blizzards. Journalist Michael Cooper wrote in Ohio and Pennsylvania shoveling felt like a sissy task as new snow and ice kept coating the cleared sidewalks. I'm Christie the wordsmith.
