Gratings I'm Christie Smith Christie the wordsmith from Montana State University in Bozeman camels come in two varieties the one humped the dromedary and the two humped also known as the Bactrian. Both species have been used as beasts of burden and valued for their meat milk and hides for thousands of years. The Dromedary indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula was domesticated about 4000 years ago. This creature is famed for its ability to thrive in an environment where water and vegetation are scarce. legs long hair and stocky bodies are adaptations to mountainous terrain and the cold nights of northern deserts. Unlike the dromedary the Bactrian camel was not named for any physical attribute. It takes its name instead from its region of domestication Bactria a province of the ancient Persian Empire situated east of the Caspian Sea near modern day Afghanistan and was back a stan.
