Gratings I'm Christie Smith Christie the wordsmith from Montana State University in Bozeman camels come in two varieties the one humped the dromedary and the two humped also known as the Bactrian. Both species have been used as beasts of burden and valued for their meat milk and hides for thousands of years. The Dromedary indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula was domesticated about 4000 years ago. This creature is famed for its ability to thrive in an environment where water and vegetation are scarce. It's hope stores fat against Times of lean resources. It's long eyelashes and sealable nostrils shielded from the sting of wind blown sand the long legged Dromedary is also a swift runner capable of achieving 40 mph in short bursts. The name of the beast reflects this trait dromedary comes from the Greek word drawl Maass meaning runner. The two hump Bactrian was domesticated about forty five hundred years ago in northern Iran and northeast Afghanistan. The Bactrian camels shorter
legs long hair and stocky bodies are adaptations to mountainous terrain and the cold nights of northern deserts. Unlike the dromedary the Bactrian camel was not named for any physical attribute.
