Greetings I'm Christie the wordsmith. If you are a word lover you probably enjoy meandering through not only the standard dictionaries but word related books of all stripes. We 21st century verbal whores can indulge in the plethora of recently released volumes of specialized lexicons usage tomes and other linguistic treasuries. Lynne Truss has a passionate publication on punctuation called Eats Shoots and Leaves galvanised a new interest in commas colons and dashes of all things. In 2005 writer Mark Dunne published a browser's dictionary of interjections entitled Zounds which flushes out the tales behind such exclamations as. Great Scott. Eureka and a must read on every word lovers list is the professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester a strange true tale of murder insanity and the making of the Oxford English Dictionary. A little tome called word myths published in 2005 debunks the linguistic urban legends circulated through
folkloric Internet forwards such as the tale that the expression dead ringer refers to a bell which tied to a coffin could be rung by a person accidentally buried alive. We're living in a gilded age of Dictionaries Word books and online linguistic resources to enhance your lexical reading. Simply check the reference offerings in your local library or bookstore. I'm Christie the wordsmith from Montana State University in Bozeman. Good day verb of course Christie the wordsmith is sponsored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Zoot enterprises a high tech firm in Bozeman Montana offering challenging careers and innovative solutions for the financial services industry.
