Greetings This is Christie the wordsmith. Every American Dictionary of quality is compiled with the advice and contributions from a panel of scholarly experts. For example my American heritage College Dictionary was created with assistance from respected sociologist biologists philosophers and sports columnists dancers and mythology scholars. But the Dictionary of American underworld lingo published in 1050 was amassed with the advice of extortionists forgers safe robbers pickpockets drug dealers and swindlers. It's a lexicon of the language of crime. In the introduction editor in chief Hyman Golden says the Dictionary of American underworld lingo is the product of 25 years of collaboration with convicts named depôt chink. You'll find the familiar stool pigeon rat shakedown and fink on the pages of the Dictionary of American underworld lingo but
most entries are more obscure such as the word muggles. M u g g l e s early underworld for marijuana cigarettes ketchup dog is another name for a bloodhound used to hunt escaped convicts. The Dictionary of American underworld lingo is a sometimes disorienting concoction of scholarship and crime. Now out of print it's worth every effort to locate.
