Two, two, three, four, five, six. There we go. Inside of this young lady was a world champion, women's lightweight roller of five, six years ago. Farmer. Yeah, I was right there. What's interesting, the outside? He's a little bit in the back because he's not married yet. I don't want to thank you. I was the first female to get married in the family. I don't know, I want to thank, first of all, the governor. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Thank you. Thank you. And if there's a governor in the room, if there's a governor in the room,
if there's a governor in the room, if there's a governor in the lady, I don't want to say the two for him, but he's the one. That's terrific, yeah. I want to thank Christian, John, Charlotte, and Matthew. It's really thrilling. I'm going to have trouble with this. Anyway, there's a lot of people here. I wish I could name. I wish I could name because I do know all of them. Except one guy came up and I heard him walking away and said, I think he's lost a little. He didn't even remember my name. Maybe he's going to... The truth is, I never did know like that. But there are people here.
And this is really a thrill. People here from my high school, from my college, from my law school classes, and the one thing they have in common is that they all got better grades. It doesn't bother me. For me, there wouldn't have been a top half of the class. There's Tim, I remember. When Tim was eight, he came home from school. One day, I was in a composition of where we wanted to go to college. And he had picked Yale. I asked him why. And he said, because I could spell Yale. And somehow, I think,
that may be how we picked presidential candidates. I'm not... I'm not that partisan. Basically, you know, policy man, I'm an environmentalist. I'm for more trees and fewer bushes. Tom Kane said, that he didn't bring me a present. I thought he had. Because I saw he used tennis ball after that. Anyway.
As I said, I wouldn't dare sing on anybody out and say thank you all the way. Every place I look at has helped me somewhere along the line. And I just want to know which one I appreciate it. Just to make... Because it's relevant, I read a resume of me recently and I mentioned everything, but the pymance, which I think is the... Well, I'm going to be remembered mostly for. My inspiration, frankly, for the pymance effort was a book called The Pymarins, written by John McFee. And I'm especially honored that John McFee is here tonight. I couldn't bring the pymance surprise with him, but he's got it.
And so... And by the way, Joe Minnes, who... Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That's great. And the reception, thick coating, warm, warm. Nancy, you want to come up? No. Okay. That's my sister, Nancy. Great. I was remembering my 50th birthday when I don't think it was that cold, but some legislator introduced the resolution and introduced the resolution, wishing me a happy birthday, died in committee. It's far, far, pretty good to say.
It's a great babyness. I'm not mentioning that. A great babyness here. A great baby, and I ran the last clean campaign ever on it. And when people saw what you get when you run a clean campaign, it's thousands of millions of dollars. Okay, and you have a coronation, I wasn't. It's an idea. I'm proud to be a broad, delighted at Maya. And so I have agreed. This is true. I have agreed on Monday to take a driver's seat. Oh. And somebody has been, and it happens as my flunk. My dream is going to give me my helicopter back. Anyway.
But also, if I had to do all over again, but I do it right differently. No. Faster, but not different. So anyway, thank you all for being here. I mean, my people asked me how come I was so calm during the time I was governor and had all these tough times in the Army World War II. And during my dream shot at, I said to myself, if I make it through here, I'll be on borrowed time. It'll all be a good time. I'll borrow more time and push it for our money. But it's nice to be around and I will all of you.
And I'm looking around as I speak. Every person I see, I pin some memory down. There's no carrot, let's say. And so thank you. Every thing has been written about me in the last few weeks. I've mentioned one thing that he had good people around. That's what Navy, a governor, that's what I've always been and I've always valued my ability to get those people around me. And certainly tonight, we've reached the table. Thank you. We just have one last gift, one last gift for Governor Byrne,
and is obviously Governor Kane and Governor Byrne have played tennis for many years together. Governor Byrne has always wanted to play and he's played perhaps on every major tennis court, at least in this state, perhaps the nation. And one tennis court that he wanted to play on was the Vatican. And thanks to the efforts of John Clancy and our dear friend Ray Durkin, the Papal Muncio, the former Muncio has arranged for Governor Byrne to play tennis at the Vatican's court. And in the interest of leveling the field, he may be playing against the former Papal Muncio to the United States, PO Cardinal Longi, who happens to be also 80 years old. Thank you, John. Thanks, Ray. Thank you very much.
You're going. Thanks, Ray. You're going. Thanks, Ray. Thank you, Ray. Thank you, Ray. Thank you, Ray. You're welcome. Thank you, Ray. It's hard to sum it up. Probably the most influential man in my life, I think will be in the history of the state in the last century, but not the greatest governor, one of the two. Integrity, steadfastness, a willingness to draw a line in the sand when he felt strongly about something, he had a kind of a moral compass to his governorship that sadly is missing in two minutes. Thank you, John. You were in this too. My bad for spot, that is. I'm going to cheer for Stanford. I'm going to create Daniel and Stephen King. Well, if you believe a public service, he's the monumenter.
I mean, this is a guy who always lives, whether it's on a bench, prosky, his agents. Except he's governor of the state. And I ain't never a position since. He's only at one thing in mind. It's a welfare of the people in the New Jersey, and his son of a grave done his part. And you don't have many people like that. Very few other states of a man like that. I can't say it's a big thing. I'm not sure. I can't say it's a big thing. I can't say it's a big thing. I can't say it's a big thing. It's a big thing. And very few other states of a man like that. So when you find somebody like that, it's like a monument, or a mountain, you sort of preserve it, and you cherish it, and you love it. And that's the way I feel about that. Did you feel that way 20 years ago? Or did you use it to do the right? He's all of all the joint interviews you've given over the years with the cause of the data appreciation? No, actually, in France, so one day in time, actually, when he was governor, and I left the legislature, even though I knew I was going to run, he appointed me to the highway department. And while I was governor, I appointed him to the sports department. So I think that's a research of each other and some friendship for a long time.
And even under political rivals, we were kind of spies. What will he be most commendable? But thanks to the fine lands, and that may be corrected. And this is a liney month that our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren will enjoy. And it's been there because of him, or would not have been there. That meant for them to go. But there are a whole number of other things. Three of us, the Atlantic City, the South Creek, the Black Ethics Department, the government, the appropriate one. The government has really been bothered, because this is specified. And number of people, frankly, shouldn't have been there. There's a whole series of things. But to me, it's, you know, ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Are you looking sorry now for anything? What are you thinking of the party? A grade lawyer. I mean, Governor Burn is an icon in the state of New Jersey. He's somebody that sets a benchmark, who just cares about the state.
He still works with Michael. And he still cares. I talk, I talk him on a regular basis. For advice and for direction. I talk to Governor Kane. I think they have a perspective. I mean, having sat in the Governor's chair, trying to understand, like I just kept... I got turkey in my mouth. I just clopped out lunch. He saw me at the end. He's respectable. Well, I didn't hear where this Governor Burn and Governor Kane they have a perspective. They have the wrong view. They're also sitting in the Governor's office. They know what fights to make. And obviously whether it's balancing with the state legislature, balancing and policy considerations, understanding what's critical, understanding what builds to the war in terms, as opposed to the short-term struggle. And some of the new point is based on longevity, is based on having sat in the Governor's chair, and Governor Burn is always accessible, always has great insight and good judgment. You can come when you think of Franklin Burn. I think a great senator to you,
I think of wonderful judgment, to think of the violence, think of New Jersey transit, breakthroughs in human service. He made tough decisions that structurally left New Jersey so much the better. And one more he didn't remember. I mean, Governor Burn said tonight, and he could really help realize his purpose. No, yeah. He thought tonight about the importance of the violence. Franklin, he did a lot of structural changes. Whether it's not only the violence, but with Jersey transit, the sports and exposition authority, the giant planets, the stadium. Much of this was, much of this was for fundamental changes that not only increased capital, investing in the state of New Jersey, for Georgia open space, but he made tough decisions that killed the war in terms of benefits. He was inviting Elizabeth Jack with me to a little girl on this data. That's what you'll get as long as it is your pleasure.
You really, it's a wonderful apron. It really is. Branded supplied was a special person. And I think this assemblage of people for all political decisions, war walks of life, all of them have one thing in common, a love for Brendan Burr. Because he's a incredibly decent human being. Tom Kane, I think, said his best. He is a special person. And I think that's what brings us all together. It's just a treat to be with Brendan, not his idea for that one. What do you think I want to do with him? I think our state, great things he's done for our state. I think of his golf game, which is, I mean, I met so much, but by and large, he gave me my first job as a lawyer 40 years ago.
A lot of people in this room who hold their own careers to Brendan. And he is unique, as far as I'm concerned, or maybe remembered him. Well, he's saying he'll be remembered for the kindly ones. I think he'll be remembered for integrity because he is maybe sadly an exception, but for sure, everyone would agree that everything he ever did in public life. He did out of his heart and out of a conviction that it was right. Again, Tom Kane said it all. And I think that's what's so special about Brendan Burr. I'm sorry. You're doing good, I won't. How long have you been Brendan Burr's law partner? Since he left the governor's office in 1991, but he and I,
were way way back. My first affiliates with Brendan was in 1959. When he was then acting prosecutor that's outstanding. And assistant prosecutor is just top of the law the best, such a unique individual. And I'm sure everybody has the same threat. Brendan is a a neo- compassionate, loyal kind of person who has depth character and tremendous intellectual ability. On top of all of that, he has great humor. And I'm with him almost every day and we'll share that. He always funny or he's gotten funny over the years. My view, he's gotten funny over the years. Where do you think I will be thinking Brendan Burr? Well, it's a personal thing. I think that my views
is that closely related to him. So he and I are funny. I see him laughing and I talk to him often. So some like some of the others. What does he care about? Care is about you. Always you, meaning he's a person that cares for people. He's probably remembered for me. And probably if you read the book, I think from a standpoint of you all of those things that we've mentioned. But I think it's a compassionate, individual who cares for people. And I think it's a great tribute to Brendan and he lived and legacy to the state because of his real affection before the state in New Jersey. That's his legacy. He loves you and the people. Let's get a set up for you. So he joined your
firm in 81. Brendan joined in 81. He's been with us ever since. And he's been almost very bad. It's in one of the reasons. It's an evening that brings a camaraderie together of what's the best about New Jersey and its political and governmental life. Both political parties and public and democratic governors alike having officials and other officials and public and democratic confrontations coming together to celebrate a great leader. But it, again, in a way that he truly deserves and the governor firm was a wonderful man and did great things for this state. I just live honor and decency in commitment. And when you look back on his administration and you look at the things he did, you know, he set the foundations for so much
behind lands, you know, things of New Jersey transit, a former D.O.T. commissioner, I certainly know that. Things that we can almost not imagine having these various things. I think it would be very hard to put together. You know, a lot of the speeches you're underway. Back governor firm mentioned that it's almost impossible to imagine a circumstance today in politics that you could have too look at a four-year opponents, want to win her, want to lose her, spend kind of a birthday party some kind of 15 years later enjoying one of those problems. And I think that says a lot about the great politics of the United Kingdom. I think that's a lot of people who can take advantage of those tough battles in the state at the back, some of which people in my party didn't appreciate at the time. But I think we understand for for an appropriate funding source for education, it was necessary
you needed. He undertook that fight, a very difficult political fight. And as I said, New Jersey transit and mass transit over all the transportation and transport. About bringing the money where do you think it is? This is a wonderful need for me. I know there's some of these more of this very gracious and great guide. It comes across as a little bit of a run line of sense of need in the United Kingdom because there is deep and bright God. The most important thing that I have to say to you is I don't live too far from I want to know what he's got a license to. I've known him for about 20 years. He and I had lunch today. He had my birthday last night. And that's when he told me about the driver test. That's when I get my helicopter back. What do you think of when you
can get ready to go? Integrity. It is really a big, very rich people. Very rich people. I'm a sincere, decent guy. Black to you today in the world. And what do you think of your new number check? I think you can remember from the fact that they have takenosos. They did a serious job as God. Good. This is great. It is a lot of research with its governance. And certainly, there is nobody's funnier than Brandon. And John, I wish him the best he has. I'm glad to hear. That's a wonderful thing to have. He likes to say he's not happy, but you know that every once in a while he has to sing me. And John, that's a good, good Republican from a teleprath family. I think I can take it from
you. One of your favorites is the life. Because it means real. And because he doesn't lack part of the politics, it's a deal with friendship. And there's never anything that you can do or support in election assessment that would harm your friendship. And you understood that in some politics and politics, but it's always with a refreshing friendship and that never ever ever. What do you think of when I say your name, Brandon Barnett? I think all of us went out in our country and I'm happy. I wish him the best. We very much as my father. We also have a great family. We have a great family and it's really
a good family. I think I know that we were born in 1973. I'm from the very small tiny office in the primary when he announced back in April. He used to announce later in those days. As a candidate or as a government? As a candidate. So in 1973 when he first announced and we were surprised to win the primary event. He worked around the general lecture too. What do you think of Brendan Bern? He is extraordinary. He is every man. He is so normal and natural. He used to make fun that people did not wave at him with all five fingers. At one point and yet when I told people that we were coming here tonight
they just were smiling at everyone's face. So now we know for sure that maybe 170 does have a place that people absolutely wave with all five fingers. And he is very proud. Well, let's click the name Bern. Everybody thinks of Burgarina. You know, so I'll always be Burgarina. And what do you think you'll be remembering? Courage. And the fact that while intersting in an economic stability, he was a sense of planning beyond the next campaign. And yet, in his mind, planning was very long-term. Planning was more than four years. Thank you very much. Well,
it's a fun and proud evening to hear people talk about his integrity and doing the right thing. And having that went out the end and having such good people as part of their career. Well, first of all, it's a fun and proud evening to hear people talk about his integrity and doing the right thing and having that went out the end. What do you think people as part of the government? It's fun to be around the whole time. Is there anything that you know about it we don't know? Well, what's interesting to me, Michael, is he's always been funny. And that really wasn't in the public domain until the second term. I remember the press talking about how dowry was and all the sort of thing. It was interesting to see things and it meant a lot to him to be around
so many old friends and great people. I think the legacy of my father is honesty, integrity, doing the right thing, attracting good people to government and showing that that went simply yet. And the only time they ever got accused of cheating in high school, all I was doing was staring at his daughter. And hearing insurance, commissioner under Brendan Burran, what do you think of Brendan Burran? That's something I was very eager to answer. He's the most appreciated and rightfully so of all of his decisions that we've seen in the last 15 or 20 years of our life. Well, I don't know. And I think everybody should question why that kind of leadership that takes you as a person and your family and makes you get a healthy environment.
Do you know what I mean? I'd like to really be remembered for. Brendan, Brendan Burran, I guess for the metals. Not the metals. The fine glass. That's the most appreciated piece of work. Can I just say something? And he'll do it. Thank you. Sam. Sam, what? Sam. You got any? Yes. What's your name? Matthew Frog. Spellet, last name. M-R-O-M-F. What do you think it's a note? What? What do you think of this note? They really don't rush it להرغط如何. That's what you mean. But theRemira willастиn be great. And what do you think of your childhood? Pretty cool.
The party is sort of boring but it's pretty cool too. I mean, everybody has to meet with the audience. You sound like a future politician. Thanks. A job that your grandfather was. He was in the Air Force. Yes. Why? Because he was a great governor. And I bring it and for school I bring it last year. All right, thanks guys. Bye. Bye. I was just thrilled to be invited. I loved working for Green and Bird. It was the best job of my life. A full eight years
with one governor for eight whole years and we really had very good public health. Best health department in the country. Other people have said this. Well, the first of all, I was not from New Jersey. He had the courage to hire somebody from out of state. I was teaching at the New York School of Public Health at the time. You can do anything you want that's good for the public health. As long as I don't read it in newspapers first. Just comment on it. We did all kinds of invented things which the federal government took over by how the pay house goes. And he meant it. Just trying first and he let me do it. When I say the name, what do you think?
I think I am the one who is the star of the industry. When I make the arena. When the arena. He josted up one of his clients, LL, LL Talia. Kahn Kahn, because he thought of his Italian. What do you think I think some of the things you are tonight. He would be remembered because he had the courage to fight to stay in contact to fund T&E. I'm from Maryland now and we are 20 years later going through the same downright. We have a party commission which is a T&M and nobody will fund it. It's an exceptional cabinet and did write us in a round of explore
and a new commission people. I really need it. Let me do. Do you want to talk? I willast. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And thank you. Bye. See you again. See you. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye.
