You. Well I've been here since 1940 and I like it very much. My husband Dan started the business you know started his business
and then he passed away. My son takes on now and the fishing is beautiful here. Not right now it hasn't started yet but it will be in sometime in June and July starts. Right now it's kind of slow but it's a nice quiet place. We don't have any recreational side of fishing and boating here. No everyone wants to go for something better than that. They have to go to wildwood Cape May for their excitement. And he's been here. This beach has been here for ragwort say 19. They started it. The owner started man by the name of Reed started in about 1920. He drove the first road in from there just to drive the next car. They started to put the little places up and fish for fish and there are several people on the beach that are retired now and they love it. They've been here a long time.
I would say maybe seven or eight or nine families that live permanently here. But the rest of it is a case of you know they come and spend their vacation with their families. So it's quite a busy place this season this summer. And a lot of people come down here to their real neighborly. We have a lot of good fishing and crab in here. It's quiet. You don't have any problems with the children the children who are flying fish. And we do a lot of it there's good fishing in the bay here. Good crabbing. And if you'll notice along the beach here it was a bad storm that we had a lot of people that had been coming down here are all rebuilding again. Now the environmental won't let them build out front no more but in the back here all the larger all taken and there will be a lot of going on here a lot more than
there has been in the last 10 years. So it's a it's a real nice quiet community and a nice spot for the rays of. On. Your own. When I first came down here I just found that I like the place it was. In October that
was a beautiful October and I sort of like my husband we bought a place on the beach. And eventually little by little I am. Like and I care about ever going back. I only had one son so he it was right after Second World War so of course he's. Stayed up there and came down on weekends and helped us start to focus. On it. We're still here and we're weatherbeaten but we took a pretty bad beat last fall on that storm and people are just now getting me get straightened out. But it's a nice place. A nice place to be on
I'm. From. I'm. I'm.
I'm going to. Come. Home. I'm saying. Don't.

Walk. On. The New Jersey outdoors. We're down here today in the Delaware Bay Country of Cape May County and we're going to sample some of the springtime fishing that we have out in the bay. Today we have Peter Barrett who is the managing editor of New Jersey fisherman magazine. His wife Linda their son Rick. We're going to talk to Peter about the fishing and we're going to go out and show you how they catch fish in the Delaware Bay. Peter it's good to have you with us today. It's great to see you. Richard good to see you. What kind of fish are we going to try for today. Well we're right in the middle of the good season for Delaware Bay's week fish run. It's been
Pycke the last few days but the winds die down. I think we have a good shot at weak fish and there's been a lot of bluefish around so it looks like a good day. Great. You got your family with you. Yes. I guess they're fishermen anyway. They sure are. OK what do you say we get out of the boat will happen to vote and we're go and try and get some fish. Let's do it. Let's go. OK. Where the wind died down. That should make it a lot calmer out there the last few days it's been blowing so hard it's fairly rough. Very difficult fishing. Should be right in order to get on here. First I'll give you hand in the boat. Go. On rich to take just a minute to rig up some tackle here and get some baits ready to go. OK we're just going to cut up some squid here. Well we're back at the dock. It's a lot easier now rather than when you're out there on the rough water. We like to fish with tails in Delaware Bay.
Well fish them anywhere from three quarters of an ounce on up to about an ounce and a half or two you want to hit me that one right over there and then we put two sweeteners on the bottles. And most of the time you'll find most of the fishermen down here using these around musket ball type chicks they call them. These are made by my tiler company and several other blacktail manufacturers. We put a tank or a white or a yellow Mr. Twist tail on there and a strip of squid. We put that through the hook two times. Now we're all set. That's what we're going to be fishing with today that squid has a little bit of smell bad odor to it and the pink tail and some color. Let's put these in the holder and we'll get over to the bay and see if we can find. This. Secure those right up there. Through. The engine. I. For some. Time. Here. We go.
I. Mean. I.
See. This. In. This.
Story right here. We go. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh ok night. Oh look at that one. How they get net net though. Come. On fish let go my floor. Look he's got the net old shoot up there. That's one of the bad things that they really do a job on it just like one can see on the hook for you got to get. It Right here.
I'll. Get it. Be careful for. Forget it is. Another way. Oh my gosh. It's ridiculous. First what are. You.
Doing. Mostly seem to be chasing faith is on or near the. Coast. The fish market here. Down about 10. Hours. Some. Workers say. Will move. Closer. To. A bridge. Near the top of me or anywhere from. The top to down 10 or 15 feet long.
The. Water sure is cleared to. Get better off as you can. Just watch. You.
Go get your. Time on the set. I. Mean. Just go easy now. OK. No no no at least I'm on top of that first.
OK. I'll just try. I have a good time. I will
take up a little bit but it was pretty good. I got to live for. Hey Richie what your cat said Valerie. We go get tied up here. OK what have you got today with the fish. Oh we had a lot of bluefish We even had a pair of weak fish too. Really. Yeah. You want to show what those weak look like. Boy that's a real weak fresh right there. Here to tell you. That's about 10 pounds out there. Fish even had some Blowfish too. Look at this. I like the Blowfish really. That's about four or five pounds of fish right there. How about from up on the dock. See what you got out today. Well then how did you get. I got one we can to close just great.
Reggie haemorrhaged you got out of that bay this morning at the big fish in a few lose. Oh that's great. Tell me tell me how those fish out. Vigeland There's about seven eight years old I'd say How about that bluefish. Well a four or five pound Blowfish. I'd say that's about three years old. And this was Lawler was too right. All the smaller ones are fish of the year maybe two years old at the most. Of course those are the good ones. They're the best ones for the frying pan or Pate lending. Richard great to have you with us today. I hope our viewers learn a little bit about dollar by a little bit about the fishing and how to catch the fish out here. Thank you for being with us.
